Scotia bank question

I recently had an interview with Scotia bank for the Operations Officer, Onboarding position. I think it went well, i just wanted to know how hard it was working into a higher position in Scotia bank with the degree i have now and nothing else. my degree is: BA Business and Society Hons. Business Ethics & Corporate Social Responsibility and Law and Governance streams.

I also wanted to know about there benefits and pay in maybe a similar position, I asked both during and after my interview and was only given a ball park rage of 35-40k

thanks in advance.

This is likely a level 4 role. Defined benefit plan. Matching 3% RRSP if you contribute 6%.

2 weeks vacation. (I believe, could be 3 weeks) 4 floater days and 4 sick days.

40k is correct.

Benefits are covered with their $1000 "flex" balance.

Onboarding position? Meaning bringing new counterparties setup in Arrow or getting all the documentations in order I guess? Correct me if I am wrong.

Career progression is low unless lateral movement and salaries do not increase very much between levels. But it's a "bank job" so your friends will think you're well off.

Scotia dropped DB pension a couple years back, now it is a hybrid plan or straight DC, can't remember

Vacation is 16 days, 8 sicks days (with up to three for personal use).

It's a hybrid as of the end of 2017. I believe that it is an automatic 3% into the DB and an optional contribution that they'll match for the DC component.

Disclaimer: I do not work for Scotia but have received a written offer from them in the past and this was included in the offer letter.

With regards to advancement, that really depends on you. Do your time and figure out what really interest you then follow that career path. This sounds like your first job or at least you are very early in your career. People would usually move around between 1-2 years for something better.

Scotia does not provide ranges on their internal HR website. I highly doubt level 8 base starts at 90K, more conservative estimate would be high 70s (I based this number on BMO's base level 8 - 78K).

Lvl 7 is a manager. 65-75k.

It's a range like all levels. Business line also matters.

Both true and false.

It isn't just level but also line of business and role. For example Level 8 Software Development Manager will have a higher reference number than a Level 8 QA Manager.

Been a while since I saw the grid for IT but I am pretty sure there may be some roles that are below 90K

My guess is approximately $90 - 110K base and 20 - 25% bonus but this depends on the job.

However, from what I hear, morale isn't so great these days - lots of involuntary turnover if you know what I mean.

Depends on role, but between $70K and 90K + 20% bonus.

Hey,

Roughly what was your timeline from initial application to interview, through to offer?

I'm going through the process with them now and I'm just sitting in the dark!

Thanks

Your bonus numbers are off unless they are higher in retail environments.

L7 base bonus is 10%
L8 base bonus is 12%

They perk up with personal and company performance but would never hit the high values you listed there.

realistically an L7 would probably get around 13-14%, L8 would get 18-19%

Don't be too sure about that ... but OK, 10% is probably more reasonable for general expectation.
