Thread Summary
Here’s my understanding of how the points work.

- If you redeem on Scotia Travel you can pay with a combination of points and credit card at a rate of 100 points = $1.

- You can redeem for past travel purchases that have posted at a minimun of 5000 points = $50. You could redeem it towards a hotel stay paid for in another currency on this card. That’s a return of 1-2%, or 3.5-4.5% if you’re travelling because of no forex fee.

- if you use points for statement credit other than travel you can use 3000 points for a $20 credit.

- You can transer 1000 points for 770 scene points. That’s still about a 1-4.5% return because 1299 rewards points will give you 1000 scene points which will cover a movie of $13.50 (that’s the price in Alberta). That might be a little lower than 1% for movies that cost 1500 points.

- If you buy in bonus categories and get 2 points per dollar this will earn more Scene points than the Scene card if that’s how you want to spend your points. $1 = 2 rewards points = 1.54 Scene points (but 1000 points minimum need to be transfered).

- You can transfer 1000 Scene points for 950 Rewards points.

  • -Booked a flight for the price of $300 ? You can redeem 25,000 points towards that transaction for a $250 credit.
    - car rental charges work as well -

Good! Now we can discuss it without getting the thread deleted, as Scotia has no legit argument to make anymore about us keeping the card secret if they put posters up in their branches already featuring it. The 'passport stamp' on the top right corner of the poster says "No FX fee markup" so kudos to Scotia for being the first of the big 5 banks to do it.

It has been promoted at physical branches. Why take it down?

This is VERY intriguing, and would be a tempting replacement for my TD Visa Infinite Travel. Any chance of an AF waiver via other banking products with Scotia, do you think?

Very nice card.

I will consider this a backup card to apply to IF my grandathered CapOne Aspire Travel is discontinued.

AF is a tad steep.

PP membership, 6 lounge passes and no-fx are well worth $139.

they don't usually waive AF on their credit cards by having an account with them

Yes among the Big 5 banks, and this could be a huge selling point for Scotia because many people (non-RFDers) only choose/know big 5 banks.

The only option right now is Home Trust. The application process is horrendous. I applied 4 weeks back and nothing. The customer service is garbage, limit of 10 transactions per day, blocking the card if the main and supplementry card used at different places on same day.

Brim is still up in the air. So right now I will gladly pay the AF for some sanity.

Are there ways to redeem these points at more than 1 cent each? If it's only 1-2% cashback I personally think there are much better options given the AF even if I have to pay 3% forex on all my transactions.

Yes, Scotia is sort of unique among the big 5 in that they do not give one a premium credit card AF waiver if one has a premium chequing account with them. Perhaps it is because they don't really have a premium chequing account...the others (RBC, TD, BMO, CIBC) basically have a $30/month premium plan that comes with a AF waiver on their up market credit card, but Scotia just has the Momentum Chequing and the ScotiaOne Chequing (never been sure which of the two accounts is supposed to be their top account - I assume ScotiaOne?), neither of which have a monthly fee anywhere near $30/month. So no credit card AF rebates, though they do, like TD and BMO, allow a minimum deposit to eliminate the monthly fee. Keeping $4k in the account to waive the fee doesn't really appeal with Scotia because the account isn't as all-inclusive as at BMO and TD (only 2 Interac payments per month free, no free premium credit card). Of course if one is actually paying the monthly fee then Scotia has an edge in that its top account is significantly less money per month to have than a top account at BMO or TD. If I was going to get free banking with a minimum deposit, I would want a premium credit card included though as Scotia having lower monthly fees on their top chequing account than TD and BMO doesn't matter if one is getting those fees waived with a minimum deposit.

Still, I like the new Scotia card and am happy Scotia broke ranks with the other banks to release a no FX fee premium card.
