[Sears] Frigidaire® 4.5 Cu. Washer/7.0 Cu. Dryer (Pair) - $1417

Frigidaire® 4.5 Cu. Ft Front Load Washer/7.0 Cu. Ft. Electric Dryer

http://www.sears.ca/product/frigidaire- ... 8220-38220

---Sale Price Over---
Edit: $1417 - May 28
Sears must have a click counter or something, don't see any reason for it going up (unless RFD bought it).

I was in the market for a washer / dryer combo and the site shows very little in this category, so I thought I'd add what I found.
This is a front-loading washer / dryer that's a tad smaller than a "standard" size you see today. There were height issues at this was one of the few companies offering a shorter, stackable unit (72 inches vs 77/78 inches from other companies).

The pull here is the price. Online it shows $1,357.82 (was $1315.82 last week) which is a good $200 less than comparable models. For some reason, these are listed (and not advertised) on the website. I went in-store, this knowledge in hand to ask about the expensive floor models. Then I asked about online pricing and the units on the floor matched the pricing online. This price for the pair works out to be $678.91 per unit.

This is easily a savings of $200+ even within the Frigidaire line (or other companies) without negotiation on the price. This is a surprise, when the units in-store claim to already be "On Sale" This online price undercuts that.
When LG, Samsung and Maytag wouldn't fit (5 Cu. Ft or 4.8 Cu. Ft), this 4.5 Cu. Ft unit with a reduced height fit the bill.

Leaves room for an extended warranty & installation IMO.
Pro Tip: Walk into a Sears, ask about the online pricing, the units in-store should match the website for this exact same price.
If you prefer in-person shopping, over online.

I'm in the market for a washer (as my Whirlpool died on me last week).

Wife wants to replace both, but I see no reason to replace a perfectly functional dryer.

$717 for the washer seems decent.. How good are the reviews on this?

Same problem. Washer broke. The way that these stackable, front loading units are made, it doesn't make much sense (IMO) to buy just 1 unit because then they don't match / don't fit on top of one another unless you are able to get the exact same brand, almost the same model, years apart. It's tricky but you could do it if you planned ahead!
It just made sense to get both (my example, our previous unit would not stack on these units without significant issues).

Reviews I found seemed to be favourable, typical complaints I saw across the board for all makes.

In visiting almost every store I can think of last week, the main question is shipping, take away/disposal, stacking, hoses (not included), any extras and installation.
This can change the price quite a bit.

These units allowed me to save a few hundred dollars so I had more to put towards these extras.

If you have the space and don't need to stack, you could go bigger (name brand and size) but then again, you'll be looking at more $$$
$1500 + Tax seemed to be the prices out there for a base unit.

Before everyone hops on that, they need to see it in-store stacked (or at least take some measurements). I am 6 feet tall and I found it uncomfortable to be controlling those Samsung units (and trust me, that's what we wanted to buy originally until we saw one stacked and I realized my own height issue). You will be using a stool to control your dryer.

Lowe's seemed to be quite good for an "All-In" style fee for delivery.

This is a full-size unit and you looking at about 78 inches in height, stacked. They were $750 each last week. So all in, that would be a good price if you can handle the height.

That's true, if stackability is something that matters to you.

I ended up getting this washer and dryer from HD... Price matched with Appliance Canada (currently $718 each) for an extra 10% off. Total, all in (including delivery, and taking away my busted washer and dryer) came to 1564. Have to wait till June 23 for delivery, guess there's a lot selling at this price (especially if you PM with Appliance Canada). Lowe's could get it to me 2 weeks quicker, but they don't do the 10% price beat with Appliance Canada, they only price match (at the Burlington Store, any way, because they don't consider Appliance Canada to be local... Which is kinda BS).

I'm 5'2 and I have no troubles with our full-sized stacked unit! Yes, I have to reach up, but I can use all the buttons and see the screen just fine.

Specifically the Samsung units though, the tops are angled. I told a sales representative about how I disliked it and he was the one who told me that many people use stools and think nothing of it. He thought it was an "oversight" and future models would go back to something more traditional.

Anyways it was just an observation, first time having the need to buy stacked.

Don't forget The Brick, Leon's, The Bay (STC / Eaton Centre) and Goeman's (who had the best sales rep I met and was willing to negotiate on price - company also price matches. Worth the drive to a location IMO).

Note that Lowes can be picky about +10% on price match with certain places (as I mentioned, the Burlington one wouldn't do the 10% price beat for Canadian Appliance since they "weren't local". Home Depot Trafalgar Village did it no problem, but big delays on shipping this unit since it was on sale for $750 last weekend at all the big stores).

thanks ... will check the Brick and Leon's .... I've had mixed experiences at both so tend to avoid them, sometimes find them pushy... but worth comparing. Live in Ottawa so not too close to Goeman's

Common sale price. Might go $50-100 cheaper, depends on how bad you need it.
When I was shopping it was down to $1500+ Tax for the pair.

That's what I was thinking. Do they do the price match on the phone with the 1-888 number?

Of this I am unsure. Never needed to try, as I live in a very HD-rich environment (I have two HD's within a 10 minute drive of my place)

I ended up getting one from Canadian Appliances. Purchased on-line. Spoke to them once on phone to confirm delivery. Everything was super smooth - purchase, emails, delivery ($59) and removal ($25) of old washer all super good.

Went to BB, Brick, Sears, Lowes.... Lowes would only price match Sears, wouldn't PM Canadian Appliance (said it was below their costs). I didn't go to Home Depot. Picked up the Samsung 5600AP (we wanted the extra options on the dial, steam, and maybe faster wash mode) for $869 (sale price) - all in price was $1,076:
