Seeking Made in Canada screwdrivers

I bought a Mastercraft (Canadian Tire brand) screwdriver set, and I am not happy with the greasy/oily finish. Made in China poor quality. Does anyone know of Any Made in Canada or USA brand that are good value, but are not greasy, and last a long time? I would need a screwdriver set and a power screwdriver.

Does Grey Tools make screwdrivers? I know they make ratchets and sockets.

You want Picquic screwdrivers. Good quality, made in Canada, often on sale on amazon or at reno stores.

Picquic screwdrivers are good, affordable, and made in Canada, but they only do multi screwdrivers as far as I'm aware. For screwdriver sets, I believe Klein is made in the USA, and there are also some good German brands (Wiha and Wera are a couple off the top of my head). Grace is another made in the USA brand.

I don’t think you will find a power driver not made in China or Germany.

Also, stay out of the Cdn Tire tool aisle unless you are buying a name brand and the EXACT model is available elsewhere. They will often bring in a name brand and make it cheaper somehow, like a cheaper chuck on a drill, or lower mAh battery to SEEM like you are getting a deal but you never are.

Another vote here for Picquic. Solid tool.

I understand Picquic bits are Korean.
I smile when I see container ships sailing past my house laden with stuff made in China

Right on the front page of their website-
Since 1988 we’ve manufactured Picquics from our hometown of Vancouver, BC, Canada.

I would be less concerned about where the screwdriver set is made and more concerned about who made them and to what standard There are lots of good companies that make great products outside of Canada and US. There are also poor companies that make poor products in Canada and US. Unfortunately, there are also some very good companies that make poor products anywhere that are cheap.

Not an uncommon practice in a lot of consumer products from mattresses to electric shavers. I sold electric shavers in a previous life and ALL of the shaver OEMs do it as they want each major retailer to have their own exclusive models so that it's hard to do any price comparisons and protect their price points. And yes, they will do almost anything from a hard carrying case to a pouch, from 20 minute charging to overnight, to including some real wood trim to plastic wood... all around the same base shaver.

Greasy / oily finish? Isnt that easily fixed by spraying a carb cleaner or soap and water?

I agree I dont like cheap tools as the quality is usually not there like hardened tips on screwdrivers, bad grips....never really cared if they sprayed a mineral oil as a precaution to ship. Also many top brands are made in china or similar, it isnt so much where it is made rather the manufacturer and specifications it was made to.

A lot of parts these days have foreign involvement.....can be the raw material or sub component. It might be assembled just in Canada/USA.

Yup, many tool brands are "made / built in" _____________ with "global materials."

And the grease/oil on the screwdriver bits is completely normal. It is to prevent corrosion/rusting.

Yea, probably very little work done on the unit when they say that. Likely just packaged in the USA.
Food too often is labelled with something like that. I don't like wondering if that packaged fish is really caught in some chemical laden chinese river, then shipped and packaged in Canada.
I'd really like to see health/safety/human rights inspections for all imported goods, paid for by the importer.

Although you are a patriot, I would just advise getting one of the many well made German Brands.

The packaging that the Wiha screw drivers comes in just makes me happy. Its plastic and it easily comes apart. No knife/scissors/risk of cutting yourself.

^ +1 for Wiha screwdrivers, superior quality and made in Germany

Can't go wrong with Klein tools, Made in USA and most widely used in North America by electricians for a reason. Can't think of another trade that uses screwdrivers more and I know guys that have owned their sets for 10-15+ years being used daily.

Cdn Tire took it further… They would change out the motor to something less expensive, but it’s still an 18v drill. The one that bugged me the most was when they wanted to swap out the one handed Jacobs chuck for a 2 handed mess of a thing for 50 cents US per unit. The no-name chuck was a POS and awkward to use. But hey, shaved off 50 cents, right?
