Great headphones! I got a pair myself as a warehouse deal about a year ago and I paid about $450+taxes... Used!

If I didn't already a have one, I would have jumped on it again. Face With Tears Of Joy

Yep, these will be my 3rd pair. For my personal preferences a nice upgrade IMHO over the HD600/650s which I've owned (and then sold) no less than 4 times. Don't ask. lol
Have the HD800S but the 660S are for a second system and are much more secure when reclining or playing air guitar. : )
Also can take advantage of of the 4.4 mm balanced on a little SMSL HO100 headamp I recently picked up.

Great deal!

I have the hd660s but I’m curious how they compare to the hd600. Wondering if it’s worthwhile to get the hd600. I was told they sound very different

I have a lot of background in audio recording, especially for dialogue recording. I use the HD600 and can say they are very honest to the source. They're very analytic and focused and work perfectly for me. The soundstage is tight and fairly forward. They're not overly bright like some have said and are surprisingly smooth for being as revealing as they are. They are some what shy in the bass, but this is made up in how fast the low frequencies translate. I've never had headphones where the bass is translated as articulate as the midrange before. So while some would say the lacking bass is a downside of these headphones, I'd say it's made up for in these other respects.

I can't say anything in how they are like the HD660s, but maybe this would give you some insight?

To sum up I would say the the 660S is a modernized version of the HD600 (released1997?), easier to driver due to the newer and stronger magnet which also makes it quicker on it's feet with faster response times, better extended and articulate base.
For my "personal preference" the 660S was a much needed upgrade to the mellower and easier to listen HD600 and even the 650, which I find less exciting but better for long term listening and still a favourite over the 660s and 650 in the Hi-Fi community.

One day, the bluetooth ones will come out. I don't care the difference in audio quality compared to the wired ones, they'll be a huge improvement over my current M50XBTs

Oh no... Really tempting...

Before this thread came along, I was thinking of picking up the Sennheiser HD 6XX from Massdrop this year if it drops to a decent price. Massdrop's HD 6XX is based off of the HD 650, right?

Any insight from folks here on the differences between the Sennheiser HD 660S and the HD 6XX?

Are these really that expensive? I was hoping to upgrade from the Beyerdynamic DT880 600Ohms that I have but I guess I will still be waiting.

HD6XX is the HD650, I've owned both....see my post above with the video, decent explanation comparing the 600 family.

I don't know how much they affect the sound and if some are better than other, but Bluetooth adapters for wired headphones exist.

Question for the experts, how well can these be driven by a modest entry level to mid range AVR?

Not too sure anymore what qualifies as an expert these days, although I've been at it for over 50 years, lol...but the 660S are easily driven even from a phone.. so any AVR should do.
Although my previous pair, replaced by some Focal Elegia, were driven by this combo and sounded pretty good. : )

HD660S are in the house….for all intents and purposes…they look new.
Considering I was just about to replace them with a used pair from CAM for more $$$s ….happy camper…and 2 warranty to boot. : )

Are these like, twice as good as the 560S?
