Sharing Costco membership for online

I don't have a membership. Is it possible to use someone else's Costco membership to online at costco.ca?

They could buy something for you using their account and have it shipped to you. Just remember that everything goes through the member; i.e., if you want to return it or if it breaks or gets lost in shipping, or if you want concierge or any other Costco service, they will have to be the middleman (which is not really a pleasant place to be).

Only the person listed on the membership will have access to any customer service. I'm sure they won't be happy doing multiple returns or dealing with delivery problems. Also I wouldn't want to give anyone access to my online account. It's only $60 a year you will most likely save that amount in one/two purchases.

This

Plus having your own account means you’ll save even more by being able to visit Warehouses

Everything on the website is more expensive vs when the item is available in the warehouse

In normal times … I have SAVED my $ 60 membership fee with just one or two trips (or even items) bought in a Warehouse

During Covid … I definitely paid out MORE THAN MY $ 60 in short order on the Costco.ca mark ups & shipping costs as we decided to play it safe as much as possible … and not go into a Crowded Costco Warehouse

Quite happy to be back to shopping in person now more than online

Heck, they crapped on my wife last week when we went to return an item bought from the warehouse. I had used my membership card but my wife paid with her credit card. Customer service lady was having a mild hissy fit initially refusing to return the item because of this, then proceeded to tell my wife next time if she plans to pay for it to scan her membership card not mine. Interesting thing is that I'm the primary and she has the secondary spouse card, and we live in the same household, but I guess it doesn't matter. I only found out the other day on another thread that both cards actually have different membership numbers. I did not know this. I just assumed it was the same number because it's the same household account.

ITs possible but you are not suppose to. Since all purchases will be logged, if costco finds certain accounts ships to multiple different locations with different credit card (owners) purchasing items, they might flag and/or ban an account/person. Membership fee isnt that expensive if you live close to a costco. Honestly you probably save more than the membership fee unless you want to look for items on sale every week at various stores. Costco has by far the lowest markup (aka regular price) and for some items its a hassle to "wait for sales" plus the cost of going to multiple locations.

Is it possible for you to use someone else's membership to make a purchase? Officially, NO. Theoretically, YES, but if they do a random audit the people could have their membership revoked if it's discovered they were allowing others to use their membership number.

What you can do as much as you dang well please, is have the member make the purchase for you, then simply provide your address as the shipping address. No problemmo. As others have reported however, any customer service issues (for example, returns, Concierge service etc) would need to be handled by the member. If the member is prepared to do that, then go nuts.

That's interesting. I've never had them check the actual credit card when processing a return. Because my membership card is the Costco Capital One credit card (which I never use to pay with at Costco), they just automatically refund to that card every time, which works for me.

I've found very little at Costco that warrants the cost of a membership vs other stores and none of these issues at other places like mentioned above and stupid long lines for no deals. I cancelled my Costco membership a long while back and if I really need anything use my brothers, which is so rare now as I can find better deals elsewhere. Even he rarely uses it anymore, but he gets it free through his work.

Every year there's one item somewhere that pays my entire Executive membership cost on savings alone. Everything else is just gravy.

Even ignoring that fact, $60/year still sounds like a lot, but it works out to literally $5/month.
If you can save $5/month at Costco, you've paid for your membership.

Wait... I forget that I want less people shopping there because it's too crowded.
Costco sucks. Don't get a membership. 100% not worth it.
Do you not have anything else to do rather than argue with strangers on the internet
Nope. That's why I'm on the internet arguing with strangers. If I had anything better to do I'd probably be doing it.

We braved all the risks to do it in person as couldn't get everything online... But as the vaccines started rolling out, felt "safer" as time went by -- initially bought for 1 month worth of stuff, then 3 weeks, now it's in person every 2-3 wks...

Like you, it was no brainer for membership, heck, exec membership more than paid for itself and wifey used her costco credit card for even more rebates... If there's an even better way to get "free" membership, let me know... (Eg "free" = exec membership being paid off with rebate checks with higher % relative to non-exec membership)... Thanks!

PS Sometimes even garden stuff we seek costco and hope that they carry such stuff -- sadly, it's not as complete -- eg weed killers they use to carry, but haven't seen them for a while...

Tires we had it replaced in costco, battery we buy Kirkland brand, etc etc LOL... actually in armagedon, we can probably survive with just costco

It's not $60/year. In Ontario it's $67.80/year. Depends where you are.

You are reading TOO MUCH INTO THIS

It’s $ 60 CDN across Canada … plus applicable taxes

I think most folks just refer to it as $ 60 a year … cuz we are all Cdns and KNOW that taxes are an unavoidable thing … that differs by Province or Territory

If I earn back $ 60 or more in my Membership Year, I figure I have done well

Cuz if I bought anything in store at Costco that totalled $ 60 … then more than likely it was taxable too

Who counts taxes in anything?

Even if you did, it's a a whopping $0.65 more per month. I lose more than that in the couch...

My wife and I go every week to Costco on our regular grocery runs and many times show one membership and pay with the others debit card, have never been an issue or hassle returning any item. As well the cards have to be linked in their system as we do returns without the receipt as we know everything is logged in their system, and therefore half the time we are showing the alternate card but doesn't seem to matter any.

You mentioned credit card instead of debit card, perhaps that is the issue that complicates matters.

Don't read too much into it. It made the workers day a bit more hard and it was a long day. The Costco I visit the return line is out the door so I don't envy them right now.

I need to return something that I bought online with a Cash Card.

I count taxes in everything. How can I not? It's 13% and this is RFD, people argue for pennies. Somehow people count taxes in for spending but not for savings.

I replied to a post (not yours) with specific numbers that were incorrect.

Some people think if they receive a $60 executive reward check then the executive membership is worth it over the regular (Gold) but in fact a $67.80+ check makes it worth it.

And food is not taxable, yet the membership is.

They will give you a new Cash Card with the balance, probably. You could try. Who knows how thorough the person doing the return is going to be. Stick your debit card in there and see what happens.
