[Shaw] YMMV 300Mb/s $59, 600Mb/s $69

As my existing contract expires this fall I've got a call from Shaw with promo:
  • 300 Mb/s unlimited + modem for $59+tax.
  • 600 Mb/s unlimited + modem for $69+tax.
Both on 2 years contract.
That guy was very pushing, it's first time I get it as bad as this.
I have no idea if it's a good promo.

Zoomer: 1 account for family and planning to leave for good in 2023
Koodo too: for a phone and locked to 24 months but was a good deal.

Use a VPN to avoid all traffic shaping.

Anyone from Shaw want to offer me a deal? Currently with TekSavvy paying $72 for DSL 50 Mbps. They used to be cheaper than the big service providers but hard to justify staying with them if I can get 5-10x faster speeds for only a few $/month more.

2 years...

It used to be $55/$69 before (feb this year) but of course with covid inflation, $59 could be the new rate.

They will start calling you to renew around 18-21 months into the contract (at a slightly higher price and slowly work their way down).

Mbps not Mb/s.

God bless.
They are both for megabits just different ways of writing, lol.
Megabytes: MBps or MB/s.

Megabytes: MBps or MB/s.
The capitalization seems to matter, but by convention, I've associated Mb/s with megabytes... as have many others.

At the very least, I can see this confusing some readers.

It's not a hill I'll die on, either way.

$59 for 300Mbps in BC is a great deal.

The problem is, the modem/router combo that comes with Shaw sucks.

I will need to buy a whole new mesh Wi-Fi setup to utilize the full 300Mbps connection in a 2-story 2500 sq. ft house.

They offered this to me when I was canceling. Would be a good offer with no term commitment. Otherwise it's kind of okay. I don't do 2 year contracts.

That would be wrong. It’s always B for bytes and b for bits. “/“ = per.

My contract with Shaw is up at the end of this month. Contract I am on is $38/mo first year and $53/mo second year for 300 Mbps, free modem rental, and I got $50 bill credit.

If any Shaw reps want to contact me with comparable or better deals, please feel free to DM. Would also consider 600 Mbps or Gigabit if it’s a reasonably priced upgrade.

Is this 300/600 mbp/s down and 100mbp/s up?

If it is just 15mbp/s up then this is old. I had an offer like this back a year ago.

There's no way any reasonably priced VPN will benefit you here. VPN rarely give full 300mbp/s speed as it is.

Wow, close, but not close enough to what I am running here in BC: I have Lightspeed 300/15 Mbps for 49.95 + tax.
Mobile: $18.13/month BYOD - 12GB Data, 1000 LD Min. (Koodo)
$50 plan + $23 phone - $4.16 trade-in credit - $33.33 phone resell - $5.51 plan credit - $11.87 VISA GCs = $18.13/month!
Internet: $82.90 - 750/100 Mbps (Lightspeed)
Spotify: $20 USD/year

Double check on the threshold for free cellular plans if you have shaw internet. Saves a tonnnnnnnnnn of money.

I have Shaw Mobile, $0, unlimited talk and text. If you want data, 1gb total for 3 months is $10 and I think there's a plan for $25 a month with a couple gigs.

I pay $10/year for a cheap VPS and self-host WireGuard on it as my VPN. I easily max out my 300Mbps on it.
