I've switched to cash miles a while back, so don't remember.... Does one have to pay some taxes/fees in cash when you redeem your Dream miles (like with Aeroplan)? If it is 1300 AM redemption + lots of $$ in cash, this may not be such a good deal.... but if it is only 1300 AM to fly, then I might start thinking about collecting dream miles again.
yes you do. it depends on where you're flying too, but if it's in the 1300 AM range, the taxes/fees are around $120-$180.

Thanks. In that case if you need 1300 AM + $180 in taxes in order to get a ticket that is normally $310, then your dream mile is worth $0.10, I.e., about the same as what cash miles are worth.

The problem with dream miles is that you need a big chunk to redeem them, and you are guaranteed to have something to be left that you are then stuck with (unless you continue collecting dream miles).
I had a few thousand dream miles a few years back, redeemed them for a ticket (don't remember details), and am now left with 250 Dream AM that I cannot redeem for anything.

So, I am collecting cash miles now and redeem them in stores for $0.105 for 1 AM.

Early last week I redeemed 2025 Air Miles plus $93 taxes and fees for a one way flight, YYT-YVR for the following Sunday. The cheapest flight to purchase I could find was $903. Great value!

Ok, that particular redemption turned out to be great. However, since the number of AMs probably does not depend on when you purchase your ticket, it would probably not be such a great deal if you got that ticket a few weeks in advance (you can get that one way ticket for less than $300 if it is bought in advance, I.e., it would still be around 10 cents per AM redemption).

Were some people redeeming their cash miles for the $50 and sill getting the 35AM?

I just tried and didn't see the 35AM :(

Also, are Shell branded gift cards getting the bonus?

No, Shell GCs are not eligible for this bonus.

What does it say on your receipt? Anything at all about AM earned?

Nothing for AM earned unlike the other receipts. Oh well, thought it was worth a try

You didn't say what you bought for the $50 you redeemed your AM cash. You should get 35 AM for redeeming your cash miles to buy something for $50, except gas. I redeem 95 AM to buy $10 lotto tickets and got 7 AM.

I'd pick an Amazon one up for sure, any other sightings in the GTA?

Edit: Found at the second one I visited, guess they're quite common.
Anyone found ebay gc's?

Amazon is already interesting enough.

Watch for $100 maximum/transaction. I bought $100GC + costa coffee + stuff hoping for more and didn't get any.

Amazon $50 GC is also nice especially if you don't qualify for their $10 promo / $50 GC purchase

Sry to be a bit off topic. But what can I do with my airmiles? The taxes make most of the travel trips useless or should I say pointless. What are you guys spending your miles on?

It's worth it as a secondary program. Earn points with your favorite credit card first, then get airmiles as secondary bonus when they have sweet offers. I do not recommend airmiles credit card.

I don't chase airmiles specials on grocery flyers - I find it's not worth my time when I can just go to Costco and get item for same price. Prices at safeway and sobeys are so inflated that miles help in breaking even but not able to get ahead of Costco/Walmart prices. My annual rebate cheque pays for Costco membership in full.

I switched to cash AM a while back... those are worth $0.105 per 1 AM. I too find dream AM pretty useless and am now stuck with around 250 of those that I cannot spend.

Went into Shell at Kennedy and South Unionville (north of 407) this afternoon, bought 2 $50 Amazon gift card(7X AM bonus), there's also a $1 promotion for all Costa Espresso Coffees (normally $3.50 for large Mocha/Latte) with additional 10 Airmiles and a Free Banana! Not a bad deal at all!
