Why the downvotes? Just because this isn't at the centre of the universe?

Yes, there's some jealousy around Calgary gas prices... real estate prices... cost of living... rebounding economy... if I say more, I'll be edited by the mods.

Folks, don't obscure the value of this by downvoting.

Decent deal, thanks OP.

That's not it.

Shell, powered by Ukrainian blood.

But now Shell is saying, after the obvious pushback, is that they will donate their profits from Russian oil to Ukrainian humanitarian charity. https://www.wsj.com/livecoverage/russia ... xmH7YvJGAn

I wonder if we're allowed to link to low gas price websites. If not, just Google it. Good sources out there.

I don't buy it either-it's a business at the end of the day.

Remember 2 years ago it was 56 cents when the pandemic started. Now it's almost $2/L

Canada imports foreign oil and it appears that even though Canada does not import Russian oil Trudeau banned it last week. This from https://www.capp.ca/ Canada’s Upstream Oil & Natural Gas Industry:

Does Canada import Russian oil?
Despite having the world's third-largest oil reserves, Canada imports oil from foreign suppliers. Currently, more than half the oil used in Quebec and Atlantic Canada is imported from foreign sources including the U.S., Saudi Arabia, Russian Federation, United Kingdom, Azerbaijan, Nigeria and Ivory Coast.

The world oil price is highly motivated by every imaginable excuse, cough, sneeze of anyone on the planet.
So, where the European market depends on Russian oil/energy and they have blocked access to it or the dock workers are refusing to unload it, where else do these countries turn to?
This increases demand and from there increases the world price. If we want oil, we have to pay based on this as the Canadian pipeline does not extend across the country and does not supply the eastern part of Canada.

Call me a bad person but I do not care were the Oil comes from. All I know is when I had my WRX Shell gas was great in my car. Good power and fuel economy. When your car can only take premium you look for deals like this.

Different grades of oil (lighter vs oil sands) are all priced based off of the benchmarks oils
There's two benchmarks, Brent in europe and west Texas intermediate (wti) and they are used "globally" (generalizing here)

Very high level example (making up numbers), if AB oilsands crude (wcs) is priced at wti minus $10/bbl, it typically follows that pricing gap whether wti is at $40 like it was years ago (wcs is then $40 wti - $10 =$30/bbl) if it is at $120 something like it's hitting at now (wcs is then $120-$10=$110/bbl)

Also oil is typically trading a month ahead, right now the majority of April is being bought /sold. If there's a supply crunch like we're seeing now (refineries can't keep up to Canada coming out of the pandemic) vs when all the prices tanked at the start Of Covid and gas followed suit as there was too much crude supply and too much gasoline vs people not driving

Edit: this article just came across on Bloomberg

Last time I saw one of these, it was for a gas station in Mississauga and people were downvoting and complaining and about gas posts in general because they were largely inaccessible.

You're going to get a lot of downvotes on regional deals on a Canada-wide site. It's happened pretty much every time someone has posted one, so get used to it. It's not like downvotes matter anyway.

None of the Shell gas in Canada even uses Russian oil really. Canada doesn't import Russian and regardless it probably all comes from the Suncor or Imperial refinery and gets a Shell logo on it and some of their additives.

Besides, most oil from the middle east, china, Venezuela and such aren't exactly positive either. By the end of this year, most people won't even care about the Russia-Ukraine thing.

It's not like we hear about what China is doing in Hong Kong any more.
