Shop around period for Mortgage without multiple Hard inquiries

Is there a specific number of days when one can shop around for mortgage and get pre-approved from multiple lenders without multiple hard inquiries on credit?

I've read that multiple same type of hard inquiries on credit in a specific period of time count as one. However, I do not know the exact number of days. For reference, I live in Vancouver, BC.
