[Shoppers Drug Mart] Animal Crossing Edition Switch Console with 20x points (399,99$ + tax - 120$)

Animal Crossing Edition Switch Console is back in stock @ SDM Online.

There's also 20x points back today and tomorrow, So you will get 119,700 pts (close to 120$) back for the purchase.

Even though the Switch console itself is regular price; however, with the points back, you are potentially saving at least 120$ in future purchases!

Rakuten does not work with electronics on SDM.

Edit: A few people were worried that the 20x points promo only applies in store. However, the 20x promo online is actually being mentioned on SDM's website. Do not worry about not getting your points from your online purchase, you can actually see the estimated points at checkout, and it will show 20x if you made > 75$ purchase, and of course, paid in money (not points) for that 75$ at least.

Here is the breakdown of cost&savings if you are thinking of purchasing and resell on secondary market. Roundup numbers are used.

$400+tax (13% in ON) =$452

119,700 pc points worth about $179.55 on REGULAR bonus redemption events, which 200,000 points get you $300 off.

Common asking price for a BNIB switch console on kijiji and other secondary market is about $400.

The math works as follows, you pay $452, get $400 back, and get $179.55 future redemption value.

-$452 + $400 + $179.55 = $127.55 net gain.

I personally think it's worth it.

P.S. Net gain is greater if you wait till super bonus redemption event on Black Friday, typically once a year deal.

To add another point, to maximize the gain, you can also choose to spend your points at 40% points back events.

May I pay it with points earned previously and earn 20x points for future purchase? Never pay attention to how sdm point system works. Thanks

No, game is sold separately. Secondary market about $50.

My PC optimum app says it's in store only. Will this work online as you said?

You will only get points on the portion that you paid with money.

They will not award you any points for the portion that you paid with points.

There's a banner on SDM online showing the 20x is for online.

To top this off, I'm currently using a credit card with a 6% cash back promotion. That's an additional $24 to that net gain. Haha, thanks for this.

Are you sure about this? I recall Shoppers at a time didn't do this (0 points if using any points) and only RCSS allowed you to gain points on purchases you make partially with points.

Yeah, I am pretty sure, at least according to the checkout screen, that's what it's telling me. I used 100k points, and it lowered the points rewarded to this:

Regular Points4,485 pts

Bonus Points85,215 pts

TOTAL POINTS89,700 pts

Switches don't sell out in 2 minutes like before so I don't understand why people would buy one from Kijiji for full retail minis just the tax. You also have to have the receipt for the warranty. I could understand it if it was one of the bundles where a game was included but not just for the console.

Could have been a threshold and/or tax issue.

Shoppers has definitely allowed points on purchases made with points, but you still have to qualify for the offer on the *reduced* amount *before* tax.

Ex: 20x points on 75 dollars. Buy 200$ while paying 150$ in points. You will owe 76$ (in Ontario); but won't qualify for the 20x points since the "cash" amount is only 50$ (50$ plus the tax on 200$).

Proof of purchase and points rewarded. I think it's a very good deal. You would have no problem resell a standard switch for $400 on secondary market, let alone the special edition.
