[Shoppers Drug Mart] Apple TV 4K 32GB (2nd Generation) ($161 After Points Earned) (Plus 5K Extra Points w/ PC Financial)

SDM has a 20x points even going on right now, which is basically 30% back in points. This event applies for online purchases as well. The ATV 4K 32GB 2nd Gen is the same regular price as other stores so you'll get a nice little discount if you consider points earned as cash (or more if used on redemption days). If you pay with a PC Financial card (I used my PC Mastercard) you'll get another 5000 points. Remember, tax is still on the regular purchase price and not dependent on points earned.

Regular Price: $230
Points Earned: 68,700 ($68.70)
Pre-Tax Total: $161.30 (Tax is calculated on the full $230)

Bonus: Pay with a PC Financial card to earn another 5000 points ($5) bringing this to $156.30 before tax.

Note that this is less expensive than even the Apple Refurbished store and it's brand new and comes with the full year of Apple warranty.

I choose it because of its higher quality video output to my TV when compared to Chromecast. It’s also a seamless experience with the rest of my Apple products.

Not even fair to compare this against the Chromecast. A better comparison would be the Nvidia Shield TV Pro.

Tight integration with Apple ecosystem. Can access your iTunes library, use Airplay, etc.

This is a bad way to calculate it.

It is $230 + tax = $260 out of pocket, getting back $68.70 worth of points. So even if you treat points as cash, it costs you $191.30.

It's not $161.30 + tax = $182.27..

The error is that you didn't take into consideration it's taxed BEFORE your points deduction, not AFTER deducting.

I thought people invest Nvidia Shield for nostalgia emulation games.

Could one run emulation on Apple TV ? Is it worth in a non-apple environment ?

I'm logged in with my PC Optimum account but somehow I don't get the bonus points to work. Anything I missed to make this 20x points offer work?

Where are you getting Xbox One S consoles for $80? I have some friends I want to play Halo Infinite with and for that price I would just give them a machine. FB Marketplace here they're still asking $200+.

Sorry but your way is a bad way of calculating it. Not everyone is in the country has the same tax percentage.

If you read the OP it mentioned tax is on the total amount.

Fair enough on the tax rates, but let's be honest, people see $161.30 + tax and think that's what they're getting it for... which is very misleading because a) it's points, not cash, and b) people don't account for the fact that tax is on full amount.

My main point is that this $161.30 figure you give never existed in the first place.

People should know that they pay $230 + tax out of pocket (which is $260 out of pocket in Toronto for example), and get $68.70 worth of points back.

You *can* run emulation but it requires using Xcode to sign an ipa. Too much of a hassle for me. If you're heavily invested in the Apple ecosystem the ATV is worth it. I use it for Music, Apple fitness and I can also watch all my downloaded media with an app called Infuse. Also all the streaming apps look great with Dolby Vision on an LG 4K Oled.

I was clear about the points in the title and about the tax in the last sentence of the first paragraph of the subject. I'll concede to your point of making it clearer though, I'll update the OP so it shows beside my calculation.

I recently bought it with points on bonus redemption promotion.

That's much better because it only cost me $44 out of pocket.

That's concrete math. I don't believe in taking the abstract reward points off of the price and calling that a sale price. That's marketing sleight-of-hand math.

Nonetheless, it's worth picking it up with any reward or discount. The new remote is freaking wonderful.

I think you can get a better price

I bought this 2 weeks ago with the 50k points = 65$ and a bonus of 40k
so 230+35(tx in quebec)-65-42(points)+50(point used), total of 158 tx in

I don’t know where they are getting their number either. Would it even be fair to compare a used system like that.

There are a lot of these hyperbole disingenuous comments now. I ran into it recently in another thread. Commenters claim a much better price but when pressed none could ever actually demonstrate it.

I am hoping poster here was thinking double the price of the AppleTV, the opposite what they stated.

Has this been jailbroken to install Kodi? I remember in the past you had to have a dev account or you’d have to reauthorize/reinstall frequently. (Can’t recall if it was weekly or monthly)
