What are optimum points? The thread is quite large and I’m lazy. Maybe someone could do everything for me? TIA.

I want to get an OLED Switch as a gift. I have more than enough points. But is this the best deal?

It costs $508.50 after tax. With points redemption, sounds like I would use $400 of points and pay $8.50 in cash.

Not going to wait until Black Friday, but that would be $350 in points plus $8.50 cash.

What about the points earning events? Worth waiting for one of those?

You''re missing out - it the loyalty points program from Shoppers Drug Mart. They regularly do 20x points (which is abought 30% back in points) and 25x once in a while (although I havent seen this that often lately and this is around 35-40% back in points). SDM also does this redemption promos in which if you have X amount of points you can redeem and basically they are worth more than the typical redemption rate. Normally every 1000 points is equal to $1, so 100k points is $100. But as you can see during the redemption events, 100k points is really $140. The points can be used to purchase practically anything in the store I believe and many people rack up their points to then spend on electronics or cosmetics later on.

Any good tabs at SDM? I want to pick up a 10 inch for a friend. Gave him a Fire 7 while he was in hospital but its painfully slow and too small for him to use. He doesn't want a laptop as he wants to use the device while in a recliner or bed. Maybe a Tab A like I use but these are getting old now and not worth it at full price.

IMO you can't go wrong buying big ticket electronics during 20x but eventually you need to redeem your points. i wouldn't hesitate to redeem during the normal bonus redemption event if i had enough points for the top tier level.

you are making an assumption that people read
My phone plan is $400 a month for 500 MB of data.
My internet plan is $199.99 for capped internet and slow speeds.
My credit cards are the ones with annual fees but terrible rewards.
Did I RFD correctly?

Comes down to if you want to use your points or collect more.

Bonus Redemption events aren't the best value unless you're redeeming exactly $300 worth of pre-tax goods. I was lucky one time where I also had a 20x points offer on my account during a redemption event so I redeemed 200K for $300 off then got 20x points on the remaining $80 I paid out of pocket.

If you don't mind earning points, 20x offer comes almost weekly on my account and will get you 30% back in points.

Best 'deal' is the 40% back in points offer which is a very rare, I've only gotten it once on my account. There's also the Black Friday redemption event which is 250K for $400 off but stock is usually depleted by then.
