[Shoppers Drug Mart] Canon Rebel SL2 349.99+20x points YMMV

Forgot to take pictures. Shoppers drug Mart Bonnie Doon, Edmonton. Selling for 349.99. Definitely YMMV. I would buy it, if I was in the market for DSLR. However, I hope someone genuinely interested buys it.

A 5 year old camera on an old outdated mount (EF/EF-S)

Pass.

$250 would be a fairer price, or even $199.

What's a better deal for a new DSLR? Genuinely interested

Mirrorless systems are the way to go, the tech has far surpassed DSLRs for autofocus speeds and usability.

Because of chip shortage, hard to come by deals these days. However buying a old DLSR for that much is money wasted. You'll pay $350 for something you'll use a few times and put down because it's too big, heavy, clunky, not that fast, smartphone does it faster and easier. A good mirrorless system even buying used will be a much better deal.

I'm not interested in buying used. What's a better deal?

80% of people dont need to get a 3-4k mirrorless system. Im a pro photog with 2 canon 5d iv and think its great that you can get lenses for much cheaper than the mirrorless lenses. This camera with a good 70-200 professional lens will take better pics than 95% of your friends.

I just looked and people are selling this model used for $400+ on facebook. New is at least $500 on ebay. I think this sale price plus optimum points is an amazing deal!

Depends on what you are talking about. Still pictures or video. SL2 has been rated well for video. For pictures I agree

There are no deals these days because of chip shortage, and almost all camera manufacturers are on life support. Market shrank hard last few years mainly to changing consumer trends and lack of travel also hit real hard.

But I guess with 20x points this is okay and if you tire of it you could sell it used for $200-350. It's just a bit steep for an old camera already.

Whoever gets this, get a 50mm lens from Canon. I have this same camera and 50mm prime lens, and it is fast, and that bokeh is real.

Why would some one need to worry about whether it is a mirrorless or DSLR for under $300 new camera, I mean seriously what <$300 mirrorless camera you can buy that make you use more than a DSLR or vise versa, smartphone is always faster or easier, plus SL2 is a very small DSLR to be fair.

Most people shouldn't be buying a DSLR or Mirrorless. Just use your phone and use it more. Once you can find a specific use case where your phone is not enough then buy a DSLR/Mirrorless.

This is a hot deal. In the right hands this camera with some relatively inexpensive lenses will blow any phone camera out of the water. But the key is right hands. Most of these will end up tucked away in a closet.

Everyone recommends the 50mm STM which is worth buying for portraits but if you're doing group photos and or indoor photos I'd recommend the ef-s 24mm F2.8. if you want to do landscape/architecture get ef-s 10-18 STM.

I have owned a dozen Fuji, canon, Sony and Olympus with 30+ lenses. These days my pixel 6 pro is my main camera and a Canon 80D for when I'm in the mood to capture macro, landscape or special family events.
Be a nice person and enjoy life

Great deal, I had the chance to grab an SL3 for 399$ (thanks RFD!). I really like it and it's easy to find EF/EF-S lenses.

Highly unlikely to be anywhere else. These SDM clearances are extremely YMMV. This store probably only has the one or maybe two. It's fairly old stock that was discontinued in 2019 just after the SL3 was released which other locations are/were clearing as well.
