Sometimes you got to wonder if sensors/camera/things like this actually encourage poor driving. They can be useful but prevent you from learning how to do the exact same thing without it or just be careless/assume sensors will warn you.

I would think they encourage precision driving for people who use them properly. But I think the sensors you're referring to are blind spot sensors and these fancy new braking sensors. It'll be interesting in the years to come to see how the sensors can become a hindrance (Like maybe a pigeon flies infront of your car, which slams on the breaks, and causes a huge pileup... probably a pigeon wearing a tinfoil hat just to mess with everyone!)

In this case I use a tennis ball because I have 3 inches of clearance to close the garage door behind me, it's a piece of mind that I'm not going to rip my bumper off. I guess this product does the same thing, but it would be of concern that people will expect to see it light up like a Christmas tree... when the batteries are dead or the accelerometer sticks, is when you'll run into issues... or your kitchen.

I think most people "knows" how to drive but just can't park

Maybe for people with minor eye condition? A visual reference point will make parking a hell lot easier.

Don't forget, some cars from the early 2010's had some wicked styling that resulted in horrible viewing angles from the drivers seat. Big C pillars, ridonkulous spoilers, weird arse dual pane rear windows, slits of windows less then 4 inches in height. Even a careful driver can make mistakes.

Just put a brick on the floor and once your tire hits it you know you went far enough forward. This is a dead simple problem people are trying to solve.

Backup cameras certainly have a place - turning your head doesn't show you a tricycle that was left behind your bumper. Vehicles and pedestrians coming at right angles however are usually not visible, at least on any backup camera I've ever seen. Maybe the 2017/2018 tech is better.
Some cars now have such poor rear view visibility through the glass that watching the "tiny" backup camera is the safer way to reverse drive. Speaking from experience on our Nissan Rogue.

From my experience this type of device (floor mounted) is not useful. I tried it many years ago. (Good in theory ... but not in practice.)

The problem is you cannot see the bumper to the rod contact point, you end up hitting it very hard - and go way past your intended point and knock it down (usually, because the base is flimsy).

We are now using one, that is a sponge ball suspended from the ceiling from a rubber string. (Or tennis ball on a string as another poster has suggested). This method, you can see the ball contacting your windshield, so you can manage the gap/contact point and know when to stop.

Families whom have things stored in the garage in front of the car need devices like this to know when to stop. Stop too late, you might damage the bikes (for example). Stop too early, and your garage door may hit the rear bumper when closing. When you have two feet front & back combined, such a parking aid is useful.

This ⬆ has been working for me for years. It let's me back up into the perfect position to allow maximum space behind the car to access the house and still leave ample space to walk around the front of the car to access the utility garage. The only problem with using an old loose brick is those times when your car isn't parked in the garage and you come walking out and stub your toe on that frigging brick some moron left in the middle of the garage floor.
