Netting out points is almost like a cheater way of getting to $180, which is still overpriced for this tablet.

You need to compare the HD 10 and A7 before understanding how similar these tablets are, once you de-bloat the HD 10.

Right now, you can get the HD 10 from Staples for $189.99 after $10 new mailing list registration coupon. Amazon warranty follows you with the tablet, unlike with the Samsung A7 with it's problematic Samsung Canada warranty.

This actually isn't that hot of a deal. $230 is a pretty regular sale price. If you want to buy it at SDM, its better off waiting for a sale with 20x points. You end up getting more points (69000 vs 50000) at the same price.

Of course if you need the tablet now, its an ok deal. Like @redflagdealsguy said, there are alternatives around this price too.

What's with arithmetic?

One is getting $50 worth of PCO points based on OP's and only redeemable SDM/Pharmaprix/Loblaws.

Still have to pay upfront with your hard earned $265.35 with taxes on the actual price (299.99) not on 179.99
Example: Quebec scenerio
229.99 + 0.80 (eco fee)=230.79
GST & PST (14.975%) =34.56
Total = 265.35
Therefore 265.35 - 50 = 215.35

Dollar for dollar same price, the A7 might be slightly better, but the Fire HD 10 wins on warranty and support from Amazon.

Given the HD 10 is on sale almost every quarter, and it's cheaper at non-sale price, that further favors the HD 10.

There's also a die hard XDA fan base and homebrew toolkit around the HD 10.

My two cents.
