I got a message asking me to update the bios. Should I? Anyone did it? No problem to report with the new bios?

Nope. I ran a quick stress test and the max temp. I get is 75C and no throttling. I undervolted -0.1V and it maxed at 70-72C. I'm pretty impressed. Again, this was just a quick test. The fan runs loud when loaded, but I think that's pretty normal on a gaming laptop.

(Sorry if I talk about this laptop a lot. This is the only place I know where I can talk about my new purchase XD)
What do you use to undervolt?

Thanks! After calling about 30 stores, I finally got one in Montreal.

Thanks OP!

Where man? I must've called a dozen stores around downtown and south-west areas including the south shore, found a few Y520, but none had Y530. I don't really care about the super spend your points event, with my world elite MC, I'll rock 42000 of PC points for $100 spending...now the tricky part is to actually find that damn thing...

I suppose. He's concise and doesn't over-exaggerate. I only found out about him recently.

I updated the moment it prompted me to without thinking. I haven't had issues with it, but there were reports of issues for some people. I'd hold off from doing bios update unless you notice performance issues. Just to be safe.

Why? I think the original bios allows you to do that, am I wrong?

Some store might have new stock since. The store I went only had the one I got. I didn't try much on the east side of Montreal, so you might have more chance to find one there. I called mainly west island, center, north, downtown. Some in north shore and south shore...

FYI - you can upgrade your warranty on this to 3 years on site with 3 years of accidental damage protection for $151... not too bad.

I bought this the y520 last Saturday (the 24th) and forgot to use the 20x points offer while in-store. When I set up an inquiry, I got this message from customer care:

We are sorry for the inconvenience. On review of your in-store and personal offers available at the time of your transaction, we are unable to locate any valid offer for "20x the points when you spend $75". Unfortunately without a valid offer we are unable to award any points for an item.

This doesn't make sense to me, I was pretty sure the deal ran the whole weekend and a big part of why I bought the laptop at SDM. I'm not losing my mind that it wasn't 20x points Saturday, am I? Also how many points was I supposed to get from buying the laptop? I feel they don't want to give me the points because of it being a big purchase on a 20x points day...

There wasn't a general 20x on the weekend. Many people had personal offers for 20x points (I had that offer showing in the App). If you didn't have that offer on your personal account, it wouldn't apply for you.

The 20x promo last Saturday was not available for everyone. However, most people got the 20x last Saturday which we could see and was loaded automatically via the PC Optimum app. There is nothing for you to apply the 20x as long as your PC Optimum is scanned by the cashier. Did you see the 20x in your app? Was your card scanned?

I had the offer on my personal account (it was also showing Sunday and Monday as 20x points also), that's why I'm confused as to was Saturday just not a 20x points day?
