[Shoppers Drug Mart] YMMV HP Laptop 15-DY1078NR i7-1065G7, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, 15.6" HD :(, WIN10 $499

This is huge YMMV for this specific Laptop, but I wanted to post my experience so others can give it a try. I was running around town during the 40% back in points offer on Monday checking SDM for a TV or Laptop to redeem on and found most SDM with electronics do not display all their laptops. Of the 4 stores I visited, 3 had different laptops and chromebooks in their back office not on display. They put a few out and have stock of others in their back office, maybe to reduce theft? The employee said they put more out when they have flyers with electronics offers. Anyways I came across this deal, which I think is pretty good minus the HD screen. It's a Dec2019 laptop and they 10+ laptops in back and 2-3 were discounted 20+% so I'd advise asking the workers. I've bought 4 laptops over the years from SDM and this is the first time I thought to ask just incase and was really surprised at the volume of undisplayed stock the 3 stores I went to had.

HP 15-DY1078NR Laptop (7PD87UA)
Intel i7-1065G7 Processor
8GB RAM (1 stick 8GB w 2nd empty slot)
256GB SSD HD
15.6" HD 1366x768, BOOO not 1080FHD... :(
Windows 10

Was originally $849 but on clearance for $499! I Bought a few groceries to get me over $500 for full 500k redemption and got 200k points back!
The mega redemption is over but you can combine this with your next 20x points offer to get the price down on a different clearance laptop.

Happy Hunting!

CPU is great. RAM and HD are OK.

Why did HP put 720p on a 15-inch screen?

AND! I've never redeemed 500k points before, but they cap your points they return back! So don't buy too much especially if the item you are buying has bonus points back! Luckily this time I only missed out on a few hundred points but it would suck if you had a points back buying electronics or goods when there is bonus points back and miss out on a ton of points.

Yeah. The store was closing so I just bought it without fully checking the specs. They had 2 AMD $700-800 laptops too but when this lappy scanned at $499 I just grabbed it and learned about it later. I'll probably have it 'docked' most the time at home with a mouse, full keyboard, and FHD monitor so it's fine I guess... Sucks if I'm doing excel stuff, but it's easier for me to use as a light gamer since it has less pixels to render if I'm on the HD screen.

Or, I was thinking I could sell it to recoup my cash and points and maybe buy one of the Ebay refurbs or some other lappy deal with a discrete GPU and FHD screen the next time someone posts a deal...

Well you can always set your games' resolution to 720p to get better performance so that's not a pro for this laptop. I'd probably recommend getting a 1080p laptop as well. Never even used a 720p one before, all I've ever had was 768p minimum.

It is a great deal especially you can get bonus points. Upgrade ram and SSD with less than $200 and it will good for years.

That 720P on a 15.6" screen will be brutal. IMO, that's borderline unusable. I have 1080P on a 14" and a 15.6" chromebook, and the image quality difference is discernable.

It's not really the resolution that bothers me, but these HD 1366x768 screens aren't IPS screens and don't do any favours for your eyes under prolonged use.

The 11th Gen mobile CPUs from Intel have alot better battery life than 10th Gen and older.

I wouldn't buy this unless you had to use up your points

Edit: It's an i7!?! An i7 paired with a 720p screen...

I have a laptop with the same specs I got at SDM in another bonus redemption. Really fast & smooth, monitor is obviously lacking but if you’re not gaming on it, then it’s not bad at all, I use it for work and I never noticed a difference on an excel sheet between this and my other FHD laptop.

If you use it for games with a FHD screens it’s pretty good, nice speed and no lag, but I do most of my gaming on PS so doesn’t really matter to me.
