Should I buy the iPhone 13 pro max now or wait?

I am upgrading from a 12 pro max, and I am not after the latest phone. But after trying the standard iPhone 13 with similar battery life for a few days now, I feel like I’ve gotten used to the big screen and also given the superior battery life, Pro Max’s are the range for me although I don’t care much for the fancy top end features or cameras or showing off the latest phone.

I could get the 13 pro max 128gb now from Telus for $1438 plus tax, but this is only saving about 100 from the new 14 pro max. You can’t get one of the new ones until November anyways. Do you think the 13 pro max’s will go on further sale for black friday ideally at CostCo? Or should I just get the 14 pro max.

Don't get it. Go low (12 Pro Max) or go high (14 Pro Max).

Saving $100 to get a notch and old cameras isn't a good idea.

How about the 14 plus. It’s about $330 difference. I heard it didn’t sell as much as anticipated in pre-orders. Bit puzzled why. The competition elsewhere is great for the same price range but if you want to be within Apple’s system, I thought the 14plus is a good one for ppl who don’t know or care about all the fancy features in the pro max.

You are the kind of user the 14 plus is aimed at. If you don't care for better cameras, 120hz and the silly island. Go for the 14 plus.

As others suggested, 14 / 14 Plus is better choice:

Here is a quick comparison of things that are different between the two:

Things the iPhone 14 / 14 Plus has / does better than 13 Pro / 13 PM:
  • Emergency SOS via satellite* [*Launching in Canada and USA first, supported in all 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro, 14 Pro Max]
  • Crash Detection
  • Photonic Engine for incredible detail and colour
  • X65 Modem [Better LTE / 5G Connectivity]
  • Action mode
  • Bluetooth 5.3

13 Pro / 13 Pro Max Has / Does better than iPhone 14 / 14 Plus:
  • Telephoto 3rd Camera
  • 3x optical zoom in / 2x optical zoom out / 6x optical zoom range / Digital zoom up to 15x
  • 1TB
  • ProMotion technology with adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz
  • Night mode portraits
  • Macro photography + Macro video recording, including slo‑mo and time‑lapse
  • Apple ProRAW + ProRes video recording up to 4K at 30 fps (1080p at 30 fps for 128GB capacity)

120hz is a game changer. I can’t put the 14 Pro Max down simply due to the screen crispness and 120hz.. mind you I came from a 8 plus.

Nobody pre-orders a mainstream iPhone like iPhone 14 Plus. Those are all sold to "normal" people who aren't fanatics - they buy an iPhone as needed and through carriers.

Coming from a 11 pro max, I can’t really tell the difference on refresh rate, except in daylight, the 14 pro max brightness kicks butt.

You are coming from a 8plus, that’s from a whole different generation of touch button devices.

I hopped from 7+ to X then 11 Pro Max and now 14 Pro max

You said 14 / 14 Plus is better choice but your bullet point comparisons make it sound like the 13 is better…

Depending upon the storage requirements, I might have recommended the 13 Pro Max from Costco since it was a good deal cheaper, but I wouldn’t touch it for just $100 off. Unfortunately at least around here, Costco is now sold out.

If the upgraded camera on the Pro Maxes aren’t critical to you then the 14 Plus is a good option.

I have 120 Hz ProMotion on my iPad Pro and I couldn’t care less about it. And my wife and kids don’t even notice it.

iPhone 14 Pro Max completely unresponsive this morning.. black screen almost as if it was dead/off.

Had to hard reboot it to get it back to life. This iOS 16 is full of bugs, I don’t recall previous iOS releases being this bad.

No issues on my 14 Pro or my 13 Pro work phone that’s also on iOS 16…

I have not had that particular issue but I have had other issues like the automatic morning alarm being set for the wrong time after a previous change. I have my alarm set for 7:15 on weekdays and 8:30 on the weekend. If I do a one day change for a weekday eg. To 6:30, the next weekday will be automatically set to 8:30 instead of 7:15. This was not a problem on iOS 15.

That said, some other iOS versions were actually worse at launch. iOS 11 comes to mind.

Weird, no issues from day one. I moved all my 200GB from iP11Pm to my 14PM and zero issues.

13 Pro / PM only shines in display refresh rare (mind you resolution is same or extremely close using same screen), and Camera.

14 / 14 Plus offer the points mentioned.

So unless you have something to gain from the higher refresh rate because you game a lot or take the best photos you could with a smartphone, only then I see you going for pro, otherwise the added features to 14/14 Plus over 13 pro / 13 pro max = are why I would choose the 14 series
