Should u unplug a phone/GPS charger from the cigarette lighter when you aren’t charging your device(s)?

Will leaving charger plugged in drain out the car battery?

Newer vehicles have a smart battery monitoring feature and will automatically shut off all ports and outlets when the voltage drops to a certain value.

my old 2010 mazda 3 has 2 cigarette plugs. 1 of them in the cup holder would turn off if the car is off. The other one in the glove compartment always stays on.

Most likely your cig lighter port is shut off when key is out.

But what about if your key still in (ie. still driving )but not charging anything? Is the charger draining the car battery?

The standby current would be so small it's negligible, and if you are driving, your engine is recharging your battery so any drain doesn't really matter.

If you need that kind of extreme power saving, you really need to ditch your 1972 Beetle.

If the charger is warm or hot to touch, unplug it when not in use.

If leaving plugged in after exiting the vehicle then yes, it will drain the battery. Or no, it won’t drain the battery. Depends on year, make, model of vehicle as some keep the power on and others don’t.

If while driving, it doesn’t matter as it’s probably only drawing enough power to light up an led that shows you the unit is on. So, a negligible power draw that won’t drain your battery.

If the thing is getting how though you have other issues...
