But what's an automatic bill payment? Is it a bill payment (the one where you search up a payee and enter an account number) that you schedule on their website, or is it pre authorized debit?

Ugh, they require you to mail in/fax copies of utility bills with your home address...even if you are already a customer with a Savings account.

So based on this they can disqualify EQ and Tangerine debits.

i laugh everytime someone says "how many points?" ..... it doesn't work like that. it depends on each individual and their credit history. some may lose 4 and some may lose 100 points or more.

If I’m getting this right, one recurring direct deposit must happen two time with the value of it to be more than $10 before the $200 is paid out? They don’t care what direct deposit it is right?

Misleading title. Doesn't specify that opening an account is not enough.

FYI, I just called and asked if they could waive the submission of docs requirement to establish the chequing account as an existing customer, and the rep said that she will pass the request onto the back office team as the requirement was auto generated without first seeing if the applicant was already a customer. So there is hope.

Not at all.
If it is a hard check, there is an average hit mark for this application. I don't care about bad credit Joe.
first google lookup wrote: When you apply for a checking account, the bank might look at your credit report. Typically, it only does a soft inquiry, which has no effect on your credit score. On occasion, however, a hard inquiry is used; while this can negatively affect your score, it is usually by no more than five points.

I've seen credit drop more than 40 points for these applications. I used to work at a bank. Like j said.,..depends on the individual and their credit history. Someone who just started their credit and managed to get to 750 within their first year....I bet they drop ateast 20 points for this account hard check.

Why do they do a hard credit check for a banking account which shouldnt involve credit?

Could be because they are running your credit for overdraft, which you could apply to since your already getting a hard credit check.

But I personally don’t understand the mandatory credit check anyway. They just want it for some reason.
