Skyworth TV thread got deleted by RFD?

I was searching for the Hot deal thread for the previous deal on the Skyworth 65" TV for $399. And I couldn't find it no more.

I was going to let people know some issues that I found with that TV after using for a few months.

But RFD removed the thread? Did Costco ask RFD to remove it?

I wonder ..

RFD Search shows several threads with Skyworth in the title--in Expired Deals.

Usually the simplest, most innocent explanation is more likely to be true than some grand conspiracy.

If you run into this again in the future, you can check your thread history to see a list of threads that you've viewed while logged in. It makes it really easy to find threads again, and will also tell you if a thread has been moved or deleted.

Thanks. I've been on RFD for nearly 20 years and didn't know that. Is there a list somewhere of other bookmarkable URLs like that?

That's a useful feature that is easy to find on the mobile version of RFD under your user avatar. The only problem I find with it is if it is an old thread, you still have to dig waaaay back to find it.

Also on the web browser version as I just discovered.

What I will find it most useful for is when I've posted for the first time in some thread and then forget to Subscribe to that thread. (I wish there was a "Subscribe on first post" option...)

In "Posting Defaults" under Account & Preferences ucp.php?i=ucp_prefs&mode=post

There is "Subscribe to threads you reply to by default:"

What was your thoughts / concerns / issues on the Skyworth 65" set, may benefit others in future if they ever come across this manufacturer.

Yeah back to this topic. The Skyworth 65" unit I got from Costco is pretty much good for the most part but there are some annoying issues.

The colors are not bad after it's been calibrated at least at this price point. I posted my calibration setting on the original deal thread. But here are the issues:

If you are connecting the TV to an external av receiver like me, the TV will be sending Dolby digital signal to the amp via HDMI ARC or optical for surround sound. However, if you have the fast boot turned on on the TV. This connection will break after you turn off and turn on the TV. Thus, you will no longer getting surround sound from your AV receiver. Making the matter worst, without the DD connection, the TV will send a flipped stereo signal to the receiver. Left and right get flipped.

So now I am forced to turn off the fast boot feature on the TV, but then the TV will now take 30 seconds to boot up.

Also instead of booting to the home screen, it will default to the TV source which I believe no one is using these days so you will be staring at the screen saver due to no TV signal. One will have to manually change the source back to Home.

Another issue is I have Kodi and VLC installed on the TV, whenever I play a 4k movie file, the HDR will turn on causing the images to become very dark and tinted brown heavily. This also happen to Stadia which I installed on the TV for gaming. The image becomes very poor due to HDR. AFAIK, there's no way to turn off HDR.

Speaking of Stadia, this TV only has 2.4G wifi which is not sufficient to run Stadia smoothly. (4k gaming will be disabled due to 2.4G connection) Also Neflix and Disney+ seem to load incredibly longer with 2.4G. Luckily I have a cat5 cable running to the back of the TV which avoided the problem.

Overall, there are limitations with this TV, but I am in no position to complain knowing how much I got the TV for. My conclusion is if you just wanna watch some casual YouTubes, etc then get this TV. But if you are looking for a TV to be the heart of your expensive home theater system setup, look somewhere else.

Thanks for the feedback, might help others.

I looked on the Costco App didn't see Skyworth TV's offered any longer, seems the now stock Hisense TV's for their lower tier offering but substantially higher than what you mentioned for your 65" skyworth.

For $400 it's a bit of a mixed bag. Perhaps if you didn't use the Arc sound and instead used the internal speaker/s then that would fix the sound issue and allow fast starts.....so for a smaller room, basement or kids off to college dorm that would solve that. So not a deal breaker if you use internal speakers.

I don't personally know what stadia is however gaming is important for the younger generation, luckily easily solved by running a network cable as it has better performance and much less lag. So again not a deal breaker if this is the case.

The HDR thing is an issue that many high end TV's are having right now, on my set HDR+ works flawlessly however Dolby Video in some cases on netflix are darker making it not enjoyable. Only way i solved it was to go in to Netflix through the smart cast menu and Dolby Video is enabled....or go in through my other external box and with the TV firmware set to extended high color off (i think that was the setting, however might be called something else) then it turns off the Dolby from that input source and i watch Netflix is HDR+ as Dolby will not come through that input source. So might be a way to still solve that on the Skyworth i'm not sure.

As you mentioned in the right circumstance for $400 it is workable using internal sound for the student on a budget or secondary bedroom.

Interestingly enough i love Visio but they no longer sell in Canada, Sony as they have had fairly good products for years, and Samsung also has a good product. My current is a Visio 65" however wanting to go 75" but waiting for the Dolby thing to be more stable brightness / contrast wise before wading into the more expensive OLED realm. Like many i upgrade and the old one gets passed to other rooms, and at the end of the chain is the one out to goodwill or such service.
