Slow wifi speeds at home

I have 50 Mbps download speed but my wifi connection rarely tops 5 mb on cell phones. Mostly around 3 mbps. If i run test on two phones simultaneously it drops to almost half. Tried with multiple cell phones and makes. cellular connection easily hits 6-7 mb.
is it my router/modem that is the cause of slowness? What is the best alternative to speed up just the wifi speeds?
Thanks for any information or tips.

Need more info:
Who's your provider?
What modem/router are you using?
Where is your router located?

Are you sure you have 50mbps, have you tested with an ethernet cable? Don't know who your provider is, but when I had shaw 10 years ago, regardless of what speed internet I had, come evening time my speeds were like 150kb/s MAX as everyone hopped online to watch pr0n. I would double check with a lan cable before digging further.

I am using carrytel. Consistently get about 40 mbps when tested with ethernet. RG50 modem. Speedtest on iphone/samsung galaxy never goes above 4 mbps, mostly stays around 2-3 mbps no matter how close or far i am from modem. laptop is quite slow but does manage to get about 5-6 mbps. Connecting same laptop via ethernet usually gets me 30-35 mbps 100 feet away.
I am thinking the modem has some sort of limitation.

I'm guessing you mean the SmartRG 505N, if you looked into it on RFD, it's known to have crappy wifi but a very compatible/stable wired connection (especially with Bell's older stingers).

Edit: Here, this one is not on RFD but just about sums it up: https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r30935476-

There might be interference coming from somewhere. Try changing the WiFi channel.

I'm guessing DSL, 50/10 connection? using the SmartRG modem as somebody has said?

Do a speed test here (when nobody is using the internet) with a wired connect from the computer to the modem - https://www.speedtest.net/
post your results.

When was the last time you turned off the modem for 1min and turned it back on? Are you using a wireless router or getting the wifi from the Modem?

Holy Moly!
I am glad I asked this question. Thanks to all the wonderful replies, I decided to do a bit of exploring and changed the channel in modem to 6 from Auto.
O my GAWD!!!!
What a difference. Went from 2 mbps to 22.
Can't thank enough all of you who replied.
