Smoke alarms on a single line

Hi forum

I need some advice here.

I just moved into an older house and need to replace all the smoke alarms (3 in total for each floor) that are all connected on one line.

I have disconnected and removed all the old alarms and ready to install the new ones.

Can I install one at a time and test or do all 3 alarms have to be connected first before I can do my test?

Thanks

What do you mean "connected on one line"?

If I switch off the breaker on the panel, the power is turned off for all alarms.

You can install one at a time. Just ensure the breaker is off.

Just about all hard-wired alarms have battery backup.

You can put in/enable the battery and test each unit before putting it up.

When all of the alarms are up, be sure to test the interconnect; when one is tested, they should all go off.
This is, if you have an interconnect wire in the circuit.

The alarms can work stand-alone.
Hvac advice warning - inaccurate information on forum, vested interests in selling builder's equipment. Selling dealer-only brands without being authorized is a red flag. Report to CRA if offered no tax cash-deal. If it's 2 good to b tru, it is.
