Last time (may 2018) I ordered a diono on amazon, it was a 2017 model. (No mention of date on listing).

Shame on Amazon, they should do better.

Was the 2018 model available at that time? Did you pay full price? Was it refundable?

The sales listing didn't mention year of manufacture, nor did another listing.

It was a Diono RXT discounted to 329$ IIRC

Diono does not have "model years." (Clek is the only car seat manufacturer that I know actually assigns model years.) A Diono Rainier with a manufacture date in 2017 is the same model as a Diono Rainier with a manufacture date in 2018. The manufacture date will only affect the expiry, but in Diono's case, expiry is based on date of purchase if you keep your receipt (photocopy if necessary to make it last for 8 years).

Sometimes sales on car seats are used to clear out older manufacture dates.
