Some issues with my 2020 Hyundai Santa-Fe Luxury

Hi!

I bought my 2020 Hyundai Santa-Fe Luxury last year in October and its done about 5000 Kms.

There are some issues I've been noticing lately and wondering if its normal or should I goto the dealership.

1. The seat belt buckle on both sides squeaks when the seat belt if fastened and the person sitting moves about in the seat. I raised this issue during the first service and they apparently fixed it but its happening again now.

2. The sunroof seems to be rattling within its rubber mounting. Again, raised this issue during the first service. The guy put some WD-40 in it and it stopped. But its back now.

3. The ride is quite uncomfortable due to a very hard suspension. Even the smallest pothole on the road gets registered and it shakes the whole frame. It feels like the shock-absorbers are not moving at all.

4. When I reach 100 kph I can feel the vibration in the tires and in the steering wheel. At 120 kph, the car feels unstable so I have to reduce speed and not go above 90-95 kph. Could this be due to tires? I have the factory installed Kumho Crugen 235/60R18 103H All Weather tires.

Any insight to these issues will be helpful!

You're gonna get some 'its a hyundai, what do you expect' feedback...

1.Not normal, I don't know how to fix it but don't let the dealership brush you off.
2.Definatly NOT normal. The sunroof should NOT be moving around in the mount at all... It'll take more than a little WD40 to fix it.
3.Depends, did you test drive the model before buying? This could be a 'Feature' of this model.
4.This is the scariest of all, your dealer needs to review if the tires are balanced properly.

I am not a hyundai fan but this sounds like it needs to be addressed point by point with the dealer.

Good Luck.

1. Not preferable but squeaks and creaks could be acceptable to Hyundai

2. Rattle means something is loose, don't see how WD40 can fix it. Something might need to be tightened down, but could also be within Hyundai spec.

3. Check tire pressure to make sure it's not over inflated. Otherwise, you will need to downsize your rims. Not too familiar with santa fe trims, but luxury might have big rims and small low profile sidewall compared to a lower trim. Ironically, you might want to downgrade to smaller rims and bigger sidewalls for a softer ride.

4. Not normal, even if you go 150 it shouldn't vibrate . Wheels need to be rebalanced.

Definitely not normal and should be covered under warranty but since it’s a Hyundai there are many stories of them weaseling out of warranty repairs and/or charging diagnostic fees on top of repairs.

Hopefully it’s a short lease, not the 5yr one you were thinking about signing and you can return at the end.

OK I’ll be that guy.

The fact that the Hyundai technician attempted to fix a rattle in your sunroof with WD40 encapsulates the Hyundai post-sale dealership experience quite well.

1. My car (different brand) does the same thing on the passenger seat. Good thing I usually don't have somebody sitting there. If it's squeaking from the buckle rubbing against the seat, then place like a cloth in between it and it should stop.

2. Is it kinda like a rattle or a squeak? If using WD-40 helps then coat the rubber frame with silicone lube. Should last a lot longer and you'll only need to apply it periodically.

3. Depends on what car you had before, but newer cars tend to have low profile tires that make the ride pretty hard. So it's hard to tell if that's normal or not unless you have another identical car you test drive on the lot or something. Or check the tire pressure and make sure it's not super high or something.

4. Could be a tire issue. See if rotating or rebalancing the wheel helps. Could possibly be a suspension issue as well.

1, typically there's felt pad on back side of seatbeat buckle to prevent noise against center console. Guess Hyundai cheaped out.

2, perhaps they need to reprogram the sunroof closed position, at least for German cars they do that. Also make sure where the sunroof rubber seal meets the car metal is free of debris and dirt.

3 and 4, I'd check cold tire pressures first.

If you live in town with another Hyundai dealer, go try out the other one. Seems like current tech doesn't have sufficient experience to diagnose and fix your issues.

speaking as a former Junkdai owner, just be glad that the rattles is just from your sunroof or seatbelt. Once you start getting strange rattles from your engine, then it goes downhill from there. About Hyundai's rock solid warranty that beats the competition, well for my engine rattle and pinging, the tech just told me to use 92 octane gas instead of 87 (regular is recommended by the way) which would clean the engine carbon and get rid of the noise lol.

Meh, every manufacturer will cheap out on fixes if they can get away with it. The official cable tie fix for the passenger sensor on one of our Audi's fails every few months (third time now) and I need to remind them to redo it each oil change
