The Source**Open Box**2019 MacBook Pro 16 Inch with Touchbar

Thoughts on buying an open box 2019 MacBook Pro 16 inch with touchbar 512 GB storage, 16GB RAM for $2399? The price when released back in 2019 was $2999 I believe, so I’m saving $600. I’m hoping to replace my 2012 MacBook Pro which is on its last legs. I really want to upgrade to a larger screen size but do not want to spend $3149 on the new 16 inch MacBook Pro (I’m quite fond of the touchbar). However, after some research I’ve noted with open box it’s a hit or miss and the intel cores are already being replaced with M1 and possibly M2 this year. Do you think it’s worth getting a 3 year old laptop, or should I just go for the 2021 MacBook Pro with M1 chip?

Unless you need legacy software (Adobe CS6 for example) or need to run windows programs, I'd suggest getting an M1 powered machine.
Also unless you really need a large portable screen, you can just get a smaller laptop or mac mini and use an external monitor that would provide you with more screen real estate than the 16".
For example you could get an apple refurbished 13" M1 pro, (same specs) for 1869. (or if you insist on the intel 16, they have the same one you are looking on the apple refurb section for $2459...I'd pay the extra 60$ for it over the open box one at the source which might be a return or even a display model)

Look for deals on sealed mbps on kijiji or fbm

You can full warranty from apple without a receipt.

just be aware the legit "sealed" apple boxes have a pull tab to open the clear plastic, they are not just simply shrink wrapped.

If this is the base model, the refurb routinely sold through Apple for $2,549 when it was the current model. Now that the 16" M1 is out, that should be lower.
