SPG
When you buy at least 5000 Starpoints now through March 16, 2018, you'll enjoy 35% off the regular price. The maximum points that you can purchase are 30K. This is a good value if you need additional SPG points.
- 5k points, you pay $113.75 USD (regular $175 USD)
-30K points, you pay $682.50 USD (regular $1,050 USD)

This is a good value if you need additional SPG points.

How: login to your account. Under your name, select "Buy Starpoints" and buy Starpoints now. Direct link: https://buy.points.com/marketing/spg/la ... ge/#/en-US

If you have AMEX SPG, you will earn 2x starpoints on purchase. One person mentioned in another forum that he didn't get 5x marriott points on purchase using his Marriott Visa card.

Thx OP. I worked out different hotel options and basically this offer would be a break even based on amount spent to buy the points v/s paying the hotel directly.
In fact may be better to pay the hotels as you would earn SPG points back.

Maybe some combinations out there where this offer would be worth it.

One option is holding on to the points until the next SPG transfer promo. You buy the points at a 35% discount and then transfer them to an airline program for a 30% bonus which can be pretty beneficial depending on your flight needs.

Is SPG= 3 times the Marriott points? Can you convert SPG points to Marriott points?

Does anyone know if you can convert Aeroplan points to SPG? I know you could do vice versa, converting SPG to Aeroplan points at 1:1...

Thanks,

You can convert SPG to Aeroplan but not the other way around.

1 SPG = 3 Marriott and vice versa. It also seems you can convert as often as you want without penalty.

No, you get 30k Starpoints, and $682.5 USD * 1.26 CAD Conversion * 2 = ~1720 Starpoints for the purchase, for a total of ~31720 Starpoints.

Thanks,
It's not possible to convert from Aeroplan to SPG or other hotel rewards. The SPG to Aeroplan is correct for 1 to 1, but every 20K SPG points will get addtional 5K bonus, so it will be 25K Aeroplan (instead of 20K) points.

That has been my strategy and transfer every 20K.

20K SPG = 25K Aeroplan or wait for 32.5K Aeroplan during the 30% promo (I remembered they had it at least twice last year)

I bought 30K couple days ago and the points were credited right away to my SPG account. The charge of $682.50 USD or about $880 CAD showed up on my AMEX SPG account today. I need additional points to book 5 nights (my 5th night is free) for our upcoming trip. All is good and worthed. Thanks SPG for this 35% off deal.

Don’t forget that SPG has the redeem 4 nights get the 5th night free redemption offer - so that might Make the points more valuable.

Yes you would think its a good deal ...but if you take the 5th night redemption, they increase the points required for the 4 nights. I checked a few hotels and confirm they work the same way.

lets says, points required per night is 10000. So for 5 nights it would be 50000 points.
however, if you instead take the 5th free night, it increases to 12000 per night. So its now 48000 for the 4 nights + free 5th night. A small gain, but not a true redemption. I would have expected it to be 40000 points.

It didn't happen to me. So far, it has always been 40,000 points for 5 nights if using your example above.

I used redeem 4 gets 5 nights all the time, never encounter your issue. Care to tell us which hotel you book so we will see if we can duplicate your result?

Sorry, that's not how it works at all. Spg and Marriott hotels are at set redemption levels based on the hotel category. The rates don't change based on # of nights. You must be doing something wrong.

It did not happen to me either. I booked 5 nights Category 3 (7,000 pts/ night). I was charged 4*7000= 28000 pts.
The 5th night free is for Category 3 and up.
