What do people benefit from buying a brand new model of shoe on release? Isn't it a much better deal to pickup last year's model on clearance?

Thx. Looking for Kayanos for my son.
Haven't seen older releases on clearance anywhere...

They didnt have any sizes. Been eyeing on this model since last few days, hardly any sizes left and the Black color is sold out all the time.

This is last year's model. The 28 is the newest version of this shoe.

Deal is dead unfortunately. I've been doing training runs in these lately and they are a great stability shoe.

Because most of the more popular and well reviewed shoes gets sold out and never end up on the clearance section at the end of the year.

27s had issues with tread wear. 28s will likely go on sale when 29s are more widely available soon.
Any idea how the 28s compare to the 29s? I'm still rocking a pair of Saucony shoes that's from a model that was phased out after several subsequent generations and the 29s are as close to a good fit as I can find...but they're also $220. I was also told that I need a stability rated shoe.

Edit: never mind. I tried the 28s on. They're a totally different and much less comfortable shoe, but just as expensive as the 29s :(

Some pretty significant changes on the 29s. The 29s look very promising overall.
