Sporting life at Markville had about 300 in line. It moved fast though. I bought my ski jackets ahead of time and just lined up for the price adjustment. Took only 10 minutes in line. The shoe section has been cleared out the first 10 minutes of opening. All casual shoes and boots are 50 percent off. Nothing left at Markville. No sale on Canada goose despite people lining up and paying full price for it haha.

How early did you have to line up to get the $50 gift card?trixstar wrote: ↑ Sporting life at Markville had about 300 in line. It moved fast though. Oh boy was Sporting Life Markville quite an experience. My winter jacket got ripped so I went to line up for the $50 gift card/50% off to use on a new jacket. Arrived first thing at 5AM sharp in the morning, there were already 50-70 people lining up outside the mall entrance. By 5:20 line was already doubled to 150, so I was good but there goes the gift cards, right?
Nope, at 5:40ish apparently security unlocked the South entrance first instead of the South-east Entrance where we were at (closest to Sporting Life store) and someone there told another leading to a chain reaction of everyone running 100m to the South entrance to get a spot inside the mall. Whoever ran the fastest and got there first moved up, which sucks for those who actually came the earliest to line up. No idea what genius thought it was fine opening the far away entrance instead, I'm pretty sure people tripped and fell during that stampede. Then again maybe security didn't know or care. Quite literally survival of the fittest.
By 7AM the line was from front of store to mall entrance plus it wrapped around, so yea maybe 300-500 people.
The gift card doesn't state any expiry so I would assume it would last forever, but better to use it during the sale. Despite lackluster of boxing day deals this was worth lining up for

From my understanding they say the first 100 on the line via the exterior access get the GC, I agree the security team might not know it.flightsimmer wrote: ↑ Oh boy was Sporting Life Markville quite an experience. Got a pair of timberland wheats for $65 out of pocket, after the 50% off and the gift card. Was the 5th in line in yorkdale. They also extended the 7-9 sale to 7-12, due to the long lineups and many people concerned about the system not applying the deal even though theyre in line past 9

What a gong show at South Centre in Calgary! It was -30 and people were line-cutting like crazy and there was ZERO security dealing with the line. I'm surprised a riot didn't break out. When I got there I counted about 70 people in the line and then by the time I got inside the coupons ended at least 10 people before I got in.
Then to top it all off the "deals" were super weak. Sporting Life is the worst for the "*select styles" or "*prices as marked" shenanigans. Also, why do they insist on tucking every price tag into a well-concealed jacket orifice?

Thanks for the info. Just got back from the store. I was pretty early and got a spot. I think that this year with the -30 degrees weather you could have gone at 6-6:30 and gotten a card where I went. I think by 7 there was about 150-200 and they ran out of gift cards.

I was at Yorkdale at 5:00 am with my 2 eldest kids. Scored 3 gift cards. They did not enforce the over 18 rule!
Did not find anything worth buying though. Stuff was too expensive.

Crazy how people go all out just for a $50 gift card, especially at stores like Sporting Life where a shirt costs like $300 lol

You are so right. Sporting Life is way too expensive.hockeyfan1990 wrote: ↑ Crazy how people go all out just for a $50 gift card, especially at stores like Sporting Life where a shirt costs like $300 lol
I will probably wait for a price drop on a closeout item to use my gift cards.

Anyone lineup at the Yonge St location? Probably less people since it's not inside a mall. Would have gone if it was $100.

My brother and I got to Calgary's Market Mall by 6:20 and it already had about 50 people lined up outside.
We each got our gift cards and stacked it on our purchase. Happy with the 50% off on our NF GTX Murdo jackets and winter boots.
