I'm shocked at how expensive the list price of helmets have become!

Does AirEvac2 require Smith goggles or could any goggles benefit from it?

There are cheaper list options out there, but this is coming loaded with all the top tech (BOA adjustable fit, zoned adjustable venting, etc)

AirEvac2 will work with any relatively large framed quality goggle with venting on the bottom and top of the frame (and a relatively flat top frame to make a good seal with the helmet). Think Von Zipper fishbowl, Oakley Flight deck, etc etc

Is there a good place with reviews/ratings of helmets?

I have the non-MIPS version of this helmet; highly recommended as it is super comfortable.

I get that, but aren't all those things you mention just bits of plastic and wire? How does this (and others like it) become $259 list when the base price for a helmet starts under $100 (and is also very expensive IMO)? It's crazy.

Bits of plastic and wire can also be a coat hanger purchased for pennies.
The amount of R&D, manufacturing processes, weight reduction, and safety features built in to keep your head safe in an 80km/h+ impact are well worth the cost to me.
$100 is a small price to pay to not have a concussion, TBI, or die if I have an accident on the hill.
