[Staples] $149.99 Seagate Expansion 8TB External Desktop Hard Drive

Seagate Expansion External Desktop Hard Drive - USB 3.0 - 8 TB

SMR

$139.99 with $10 signup coupon.

Same deal as last month, but it has only hit $139 twice this year (May and November according to my RFD search). I missed it in November and was waiting for it again, so not blazing hot, but not cold either. $17.5/TB

If you don't care about SMR and using it to just store media, $17.5/TB is great value.

Edit: reminder to use cashback sites if you want 2%~ back.

Good price but they are SMR drives.
Barracuda Compute drives inside most likely.

Ship to store only available?

Caught my attention this late in the xmas deals game, but seems can only be shipped to/picked up at store when I checkout.

Thanks. Was going to go with 14TB from Best Buy but I have a Staples gift card and 8TB should be enough for now to add to my Plex.

You may experience some slow down in some situation since it is SMR and the speed seems to be 5900rpm (https://forums.unraid.net/topic/58783-8 ... eb8000100/). Ideal speed is 7200rpm or if you can find hydrid ssd/hdd. I tried using 5900rpm is it slow and sometime my ps4 complain no hdd detected.

Yes, I use one in my Plex server. SMR drives are fine for reading speeds..

The 8TB Seagate Expansion is an SMR drive. SMR drives are not generally recommended in NAS for RAID as rebuild time in the case of failure would be very long. Consider finding a CMR which usually the 10TB or higher drives are.

yeah, but at $139.99 + GST less ebates...not bad and will give you a good run for a few years as JBOD

Not 10%, it's a $10 coupon after signing up for their promo emails.

https://www.staples.ca/a/content/email

Either use a account you haven't used before or get a disposable email, takes about 5 minutes after you sign up.

I don’t think so. Maybe try again? I’m getting it shipped to my house in Vancouver, estimated delivery for Dec 21st.

Guys dont ship the drive.
I ordered it last time for the same one and they left it at the door.
Someone stole it.
Staples ships with their own truck and there is no tracking number.
I am still fighting with them to get back the money.
Pickup in store to avoid the hassle.
