[Staples] Acer Switch Alpha 12 - $479 Staples clearance YMMV

I grabbed an Acer Switch Alpha at Staples for $479.97 -- sign read $539.97 but checkout was lower.

Model SA5-271-51XD (i5-6200U, 12" touchscreen, detachable keyboard , 8GB RAM / 128GB SSD) , SKU 2112759-3

Similar to a Surface Pro , depending on your faith in Acer brand == but price puts it into lower cost extended warranty.

Have been using this computer for 1 year now. I can say it is a good computer. Don't expect to play games for do anything too graphic heavy on it, but for everyday use, this is a perfect machine. I bought the Acer USB-C hub with this machine and I am driving 2 external monitors at 2560x1440 and the computer itself at 2160x1440, and everything is working great.

Unfortunately, my detachable keyboard is a little bit wonky, it only work at a certain position.

My only worry is heat management. It shows QHD with an i5 dual core...

Must be very YMMV, but it's a good price for a product in a market that is unfortunately shrinking (Windows tablets).

From hardware perspective, this is a well made electronic. However, when it comes to performance, it lags behind basically every other of the same category.
It gets too hot even for daily usage.

See if you could find a Surface Pro 3 at this price.

I got it at full price at $899.99 I believe. And also bought the stylist from Acer Canada directly for like $100+.
Then I sold the whole thing to a guy on Kijiji for $350 after 1 year. I barely touched this machine, the guy got a super good deal.

Can you confirm if it has a bi-lingual keyboard? That destroys the deal for me.

how do you check staples store inventories? Or just call each staples and ask them to check?

Choose pickup in store to see stock levels.

I got this thing refurbished from Canada Computers around Xmas for 449$ and It's great! I was looking@ more powerful machines but they were heavier, lower res screens (some without touch) and/or were not fanless. The ones that were anywhere near this in specs were double the price or more!

Other than a deal I missed on a 5th Gen surface pro (BNIB $799 i5-7200u with keyboard) I'm pleased with the deal I got. Still kicking myself for missing that... But I'm still happy with what I got for nearly ½ this price!

The only thing lacking is battery life...I get only 6.5h max, usually less. That's why I really dig the surface products. Not from hands on experience but I hear they get double battery with 8th gen Intel CPUs vs this.

If you need a system now, this is going to cover all the bases. If you can wait, and have a bit more budget, there are going to be better products under $500 for back to school I expect.

Not sure where it gets too hot --

I've had this exact machine for 2 years. I use it almost every day. Yes it gets hot, but it's sitting on a desk or on your lap, so it really doesn't matter.

It's a good device for streaming PC games as well (GeForce Now etc) - works well.
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain.
