Not bad if you need it now. Price will probably be lower on Black Friday.

God it might be worth 200 bucks just for that LED-on/off button.

The Front LEDs can also be disabled from the router settings with Merlin firmware.

I believe this router has an encrypted bootloader which limits the router to Merlin or stock firmware.

I've been using this router for a few months and it's excellent with OpenVPN.

Use code 64748 to save $25, bringing the price down to $175
Is this a hot deal or should I wait for blackfriday?

Really depends on your needs. I wanted a router to watch USA Netflix, Vudu, and Fandango on my TV.

The r7000 and Asus RT-AC68u were too slow for me when running OpenVPN since it doesn's support hardware acceleration with OpenVPN.

How does this compare with this one that was on sale at bestbuy this week: ASUS Wireless AC1900 Dual-Band Router (RT-AC1900P) ?

It's better, and I trust it more.

Seems like custom firmware would've solved that problem. I never bothered because I don't need VPNs anymore.

The cheaper priced RT-AC68U is a solid performer as well if one doesn’t need the extra processing power (mine is super stable with the stock firmware and 20+ devices - I use the VPN from time to time but no other features).
