[Staples] Asus AC66u-B1 Router - $129.99

I didn't see this in a quick thread search.

This is the new dual core version (B1 revision of the AC66u and is essentially equal to the AC68u)

Great router and the price is VERY competitive at this time.

UPDATE - thanks spacedan.

Staples now offers this at the same price and is in stock

I've got an asus nt-66u that's 3 years old and starting to really slow down. Aside from installing Merlin builds, I know diddly squat about tweaking routers and understanding all the settings. What's the good deal about this router? I've seen a few discussions about the "b1" version.

Is this a worthy replacement ?

yes, this is a significant upgrade.

ac66u is a single core 1ghz router. The ac66u-b1 is a dual core 1ghz router that is basically the same as the old ac68u.

If you are installing merlin/using extra features, this is a good upgrade.

In addition, asus has a built in malware firewall (supplied by trend?) that has been helpful for my usage of this system

Seems like it can run merlin but not tomato firmware wise.

Pm possible? http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/asu ... 61945.aspx?

I have both versions, one at home and one at the office of a small business, and IMHO you won't find a more versatile router for the price ... ASUS packs so many features in that most routers don't include that are amazing, especially when flashed with Merlin.
I'd rather be outdoors camping, kayaking, and mountain biking ...

How about ac66u to ac66u-b1? Is that a worth while upgrade?

For most users no, unless your having issues with custom firmware (which I never encountered) ... the B1 version I used in my business office due to many more users and heavy traffic (NAT and QOS) and even then I think I would have been fine with the non-B1 version, but that was what they had when I purchased it.

Save your $$$ for another RFD deal instead

How does this compare to a n66u? Yes I know it's old but is it worth the upgrade?

It is sold directly by Newegg on the newegg.ca website?

How does this compare the earlier C7 Archer deal from Amazon ?

This looks like a better supported / performing unit than the C7 so it might be worth the extra $40

C7 is a single core CPU, so this is definitely better. Uses the same Merlin software as the AC68 so I'm assuming it's almost exactly the same unit.
