Amazing router.

Using it as my main with RT-86U in AiMesh mode.

This router has two 5ghz bands with one as a "dedicated backhaul" for the AiMesh mode.

It is a powerhouse! Very reliable and only time it turns off is when the power is bumped due to storms, etc.

How’s the coverage on this? I have to move my router to the basement as that’s where the fibre connection is coming in. Would prefer to have something strong enough to pass a signal from there throughout the house. Current have a 68U as an AIMESH node on the main floor.

Wow! Thats a great deal. I just bought a few APs to put around the house, but when I saw this guy in action as a friends house I was blown away. The price was a bit much, but at this price its a no brainer. Thanks OP!

I bought from Amazon for 299 because I prefer them over stooples.

Thanks OP I hope this helps. I get 50Mbps on my 3rd floor atm, and my ubiquiti ac lr units didn't do anything for me really, maybe in conjunction w this it'll be different.

Thanks OP, I ordered 2 in order to set up aimesh. I'm getting sick of having poor WiFi spots in the house. This should be much better than those 'wifi mesh' setups, especially if using wired backhaul

No Merlin support is a dealbreaker for me as I do use some of the features it brings.

Out of curiosity, what featured would those be? I have this router so I'm wondering what I'm missing out on.

the reception was somewhat weak for me without airmesh whereas Google Wifi works slightly better...maybe YMMV depending on specific house...

It did that to me, I used a different email address and it worked (if using Gmail, just add period in the middle somewhere)

I use the VPN features. With Merlin, I am able to specify devices that I want to force through a VPN connection. For example, I can force my Firestick to use a Canadian VPN, and my Raspberry Pi to use a US VPN. This includes the ability to kill the connection should the VPN go down. I just set it up on the router and not have to worry about installing VPN apps on multiple devices, assuming they are even available for that device.

These features may have been brought to the stock firmware, but I never saw it when I was using it. Although this was years ago.
