[Visions Electronics] ASUS RT-AC66U B1 (AC68U) Dual Band WiFi Gigabit Router - $110

Staples currently has the ASUS RT-AC66U B1 H/W B2 on sale for $110 + tax. If you have Staples coupon, you can potentially save even more. I used a $10 coupon and was able to knock it down to $113 tax included.

The AC66U B1 has a BCM4708C0 dual core ARM CPU clocked at 1GHz. You can flash the AC68U Merlin firmware to turn this into a AC68U as it's basically the same internals. It's a very powerful router for the money and with the USB ports, you can attach a hard drive to it so it I think? I never tried but it is something I'm going to try in the future.

Merlin firmware

Update: Sale at Staples is over. Visions Electronics is your new best friend.

Oddly I'm not sure if port forwarding always work.

Was looking at this yesterday, can anyone expand on this flashed ASUS vs D-Link DIR-878 AC1900 ?
SNB rates the D-Link as a better buy wrt value . . . but a flashed ASUS hmmmm FTW? (USB and cheaper, thoughts)
ASUS $109.99 vs D-Link $119.99

my thoughts on the ASUS
-pro super control (QoS)
-pro aftermarket mods
-pro USB 3.0 & 2.0
-pro ASUS reliable !!!

Someone who thinks they need an AX router because AC is old tech.

This one is the B1 version, not the regular one.
The B1 has faster CPU, support aimesh, etc, and can use merlin wrt.

Hey! I had the original AC-66U. Then I replaced it with the newer B1. I have Merlin installed on it. It is a fantastic router. Worth every cent.

This might not be B1 version but someone can order to confirm as sometimes retailer enters in incorrect model number etc. Just a suggestion here. You could also PM the single one but again need to confirm if B1 version or not.

from description they should be B1 version, cause only B1 version supports AiMesh, not the regular one.

What router would you recommend for a 3 storie house where the router is in basement?

I have tried Netgear R7000 R8000 R8000P Asus AC86u and the Linksys EA9500v2

All of these routers only give me 50-60mbps on the top floor of house on the 5ghz band, not enough to stream some things that need 200mbps

I also read to avoid any AX router released before October 2019 is it is running beta chips not fully supporting wifi6.

Budget isnt really an issue, anything around thre $300 mark would be fine.
