[Staples] Geeni Smart Battery Camera FreeBird on Sale $99.99 Regular $129.99

Bought 2 last month. Great deal as they rarely go on sale. Always easy to setup with the Geeni App.
excellent customer service from Merkury Innovations. I Love their smart products.

going to mount one up a tree to cover my backyard laneway. too many dog walkers leaving their
blue poop bags in the lane. $10 cheaper than last months sale.

99.9% of the time, when the motion detector doesn't detect motion, the camera is powered completely off. That means that fundamentally it isn't possible for the camera to be smarter than a motion sensor, and your control over the movement criteria is very very limited. However once the camera is tripped, the video can be analyzed to determine if it was a valid or false trip.

That's the only way to get battery powered cameras in 2021, it's simply not possible to do it any other way at low price points. Batteries don't exist that can hold that high a density of charge - a typical quality camera with night vision LEDs needs up to 2kWh/month.

Sometimes battery is the only way, I get it. But if you have the option for power, I'd really heavily recommend it. WiFi but powered cameras are substantially more featureful than battery cameras, and PoE aka IP Cameras would be the gold standard.
no power option for back alley, looking into a solar panel, i really only spot check anyways. I bought an extra camera, i rotate when it needs charging. so i always have a camera running in the alley. the battery lasts a long time, as it only records when it detects motion. its battery dependant, so it does not record 24/7 which makes sense.

The Arlo ones (and others) have rudimentary AI that can detect basic Person / Animal / Cars and send appropriate notifications. It would help you do decide whether you want to review the video or not.

In the Geeni App, under motion detection settings, there's a human body filtering option that i can enable. not sure exactly if it will still send car or animal motion detection.
