[Staples] [HOT] DYMO LabelWriter 4XL $169.97 [IN STORE PICKUP ONLY]

DYMO 4XL is on sale at staples for just $169.97. Stocktrack shows 1 or 2 units in stock at a lot of locations across Canada, I was able to pick one up in store in Richmond today. These typically sell decently at the regular price as well.

This is the last DYMO that doesn't have the label rolls with chips inside, so you can use 3rd party labels unlike the 5XL, which makes that printer one that a lot of people would not even take for free.

As someone that prints a lot I have a Zebra as well, but unless you are printing from a site that has ZPL compatible plug ins like ChitChats, you get blurred labels that sometimes do not scan. This is a good printer and at this price blows out any of the Chinese brands on Amazon.

This is the lowest post COVID price for these. Used ones on Marketplace typically sell for around $200-$250.

Might do better if you included a stocktrack link.

Exactly - since it's thermal, it really for shipping labels. It wouldn't be great for things around the house like cables, tool boxes, etc. since print fades over time especially in warm environments like a garage in the summer.

We use one at work with smaller labels for barcodes and it doesn't work well for that purpose - shifting and printing half onto 2 labels. No problems with larger (Fedex/UPS) labels.

At $170 + cost of labels @ around $10/roll, the average home user would find it better spent towards a standard PC printer + a few reams of paper where you could print anything else including shipping labels.

But if you run a business and print LOTS of shipping labels...

I guess it's worth the investment if you sell a lot of stuff online and need to print shipping labels. But if you're buying it just to label stuff for print stuff casually then it's probably better to print and tape or use a printer at work, if you have access Winking Face

Ever since Covid and WFH, I bought myself an el cheapo laser printer for Amazon return labels and other randy things.

Really? I feed jpegs to my LP2844 all the time (ie Amazon return labels) and I have perfect clarity on my shipping labels. I also turn down the print speed and turn up the darkness.

The "internal" barcode that I also print is kinda blurry sometimes but I suspect that's from stretching because I don't size it right based on the paper.
Do you not have anything else to do rather than argue with strangers on the internet
Nope. That's why I'm on the internet arguing with strangers. If I had anything better to do I'd probably be doing it.

The Label printing out blurry is due to it not being ZPL compatible. Most of my shipments are Sports Card Cases so around $2k to $5k so at that point even the blurriness on the Zebra is not worth the risk. The only workaround I know is paying for Adobe Acrobat as it converts to native ZPL before printing. But Canada Post/Net Parcel only provide a PDF, PNG, JPEG and doesn’t come out as nicely.

At least for me, labelopes are free and laser prints are cheap and multipurpose. I'm not necessarily inclined to spend $150+ on a label maker when labelopes do it for cheaper.

Is there a reason to support a company that DRMs their products over one that doesn't like Brother's QL-8XXX series?

Who owns your printer?

I own this machine. It had printing issues after a year. The warranty wasn't very helpful. You can't use any thermal labels with this printer. You have to use Dymo-compatible labels, which are more expensive than regular labels.
If you print enough, then it adds up. I wouldn't buy this machine again, it's not worth it.
