Thanks! I picked one up just before closing. They're still honoring the trade in promo. There was about 6 left when I left the store
Did you get $60 trade in value? I only got $50.

I wouldn't make a statement based on a guess as the guy didn't specify clearly he had the regular or starter. That's not the point though. The point is, the starter kit in some cases like FritzToch or myself (see our earlier posts), is no different from a regular kit and is not part of the Instant Ink Program. Again, YMMV.
ok sure, maybe HP set up your instant ink as if you didn't have any ink available so the first ink you use the one they send you.

I still don't think you can put the setup ink back into the printer after opting out of Instant Ink, based on what the guy was telling me. it's a costly gamble, since you could be throwing away nearly a full cartridge if you swap to the instant ink ones right away and try to 'save' the setup ink. because if what I was told is indeed correct, you'd be forced to buy a whole new set of cartridges, or just opt back into instant ink.

Disable the automatic updates, or it'll update to latest firmware from Feb 2019 which has the DRM and prevents you from using 3rd party cartridges. There is no older firmware to go back to once you make this mistake.

If I'm not mistaken, this "DRM" thing has been in effect since Sept 2016. Since then, lots of complaints about that move so HP updates the firmware with a provision that for printers manufactured prior to December 1, 2016 dynamic security will not be enabled by this firmware. So, like it or not, I strongly believe that the firmware that comes with the printer already has that security feature built-in already. Mine was dated in 2018-08. https://www.ghacks.net/2016/10/13/hp-re ... -blocking/

Yours doesn't have DRM. It's the last version that didn't have DRM. Go to EWS by the IP address of printer, then log in, go to
tools>product info>printer info

Cartridge policy shoudl be off. I would like the firmware you have but it isn't found anywhere now.

That's weird... cause the coupon is not a manual reduction.. its a coupon code that just automatically takes off 60...

it's what I have. Don't update it or you'll lose the ability to use non-HP ink.

The firmware description says very clearly the latest Feb 2019 firmware has DRM to prevent non-HP ink from being used. Regardless of what it says on your screen Im not going to update to Feb 2019. HP has a very bad reputation for DRM. I rather trust their description and warning clearly stated on their firmware page.

I was responding to your instructions to verify that the function wasn't present. If they are not accurate, please don't share them.
