First month up. My requested change to move to the free 15 page plan kicked in. But looks like I lost the extra 300 pages trial. That’s fine, only printed 98 pages. As long I’m on the free plan for as long as possible before they decide to remove it in the future, I’m happy with our $10 printer.
Only one month free? Not two? I got two when I signed up online, and an extra one when I called them later. But my started inks became part of the II program.

Enroled in 3 month trial on the 13th in the morning for the 50 page plan. Continued to read topic how to change to free plan. Called in later that same afternoon to change. It wouldn’t take effect until following month. Guess this change overrode the trial plan. Rather have the free plan than calling in now to resume trial and then not being able to get free plan later.

it's odd they keep updating the firmware for this printer once a month, but wont put in DRM for the cartridges.

If they got caught blocking 3rd party ink, why would they add it again a few months later?

Hi badOne,

I'm trying to do the same as you and downgrade my 8710. Just recently inserted my re-filled cartridges and discovered the updated firmware blocking me. Would it be possible for you to send me the ".rfu" file you used? I believe the file is named "ojpro_8710_1834A_08212018.rfu." I would get it from the "ftp" site you cited, but it is no longer there (replaced by the updated version).

Does anyone have a backup firmware for 8720 that allows 3rd party cartridges? I did not download when it was available from HP. Please upload somewhere and share link for everyone.

Thanks,

Thanks,
it's on the same ftp link a few pages back. They aren't taking down the files from the ftp site.

Thank badone. If you referring to "http://www.awin1.com/cread.php?awinmid= ... -p/6899831", then i'm having "access denied" problems even with registered account that i can overcome.

If anyone can access it, please upload to google drive or the like and share.

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/networking/software/pfirmware

works just fine. The instructions are posted in one of my posts from months ago in this thread on how to flash it.
Thanks for linking it badOne. The FTP site only contains 1 rfu "ojpro_8720_1919B_05102019.rfu" for 8720 and its the latest one from the support website. From my understanding, the FTP rfu and the HP support exe doesn't contain the "update" to allow 3rd party cartridges. I'll keep checking back and searching.

hmm they removed all except the most recent for the 8710 as well. This is new. All the firmware for the 8710 supports 3rd party even though in the comments it says it has DRM in it. I wouldn't worry about that for your 8720. I guess I should have downloaded the 8720 a few months as well in case someone needed it but thought you guys would have taken the hint to do so when i mentioned it.

I'm finally setting up the printer now. Should I try to use up the starter ink before registering for the II trial?
