I have a matebook X ( https://consumer.huawei.com/en/support/ ... atebook-x/ ). Absolutely stunning hardware. I would definitely recommend it.

Here are some take aways:

Pro's:
1) Fanless design
2) Excellent performance and sound speakers
3) Backlit keyboard and perfect key spacing, at least for my hands.
4) High quality parts
5) Excellent battery

Probably one of the best Ultrabooks I have picked up in years, would definitely recommend.

Cons: Can't upgrade much, treat it as a Macbook Air competitor and it gets the job well done.

Regarding XPS:

Cons:
1) Speakers are pretty bad - you get the buzzing noise when voice is high pitched, when you are attending web meetings, this sucks.
2) Keyboard is terrible, coming from Lenovo X200/X201/X220 - this is complete garbage.
3) Cannot upgrade much either.

If you ask me what you should go for, this or XPS in terms of ultrabook comparison, I would say go for matebook, you will be a lot happier. And if somebody disagrees having this laptop, pm me and I will trade you my spare XPS 13 9350 with Samsung 512GB NVMe / 8GB RAM for this one in a heart beat.

Cheers.

Never owned a asus, but my friends that have it like their machines...
of course their screen isnt the best out there, but their pricing is usually competitive for the spec you get.

I tried both last year and I ended up keeping the Matebook (i7 with MX150 deal from MS) because:

- I prefer the 3:2 aspect ratio
- The Dell was louder (fan)
- More importantly, I use the backlight a lot on the couch, and the white lettering on the light colored keyboard of the Dell made the backlight almost useless at my most common viewing angle.

However, yesterday was the 2nd time I sent the Matebook for repairs. About a month ago, it died, no power, nothing. Still under warranty (*), they changed the main board. But when I got it back, it kept crashing with freezes and blue screens. I ran Memtest86 and it failed. I just sent it back. It's annoying, but I haven't heard many complaints about this laptop so I'm probably just unlucky.

I had read horror storied about customer service but so far it has been good, aside from an initial delay in getting a shipping label (I called 4 times...). Otherwise, no complaints about the process and/or reps I talked to.

(*) When they originally checked the serial number they told me this was a US laptop and the warranty was only good in the US. But it was obvious from the proof of purchase that I bought this from MS Store Canada, not US. So they honored the warranty.

Sneaky MS Store selling us US laptops. ;)

Too bad it's only 8GB of RAM. It's 2019 so either make 16GB the absolute minimum or sell a variant with 16GB of RAM.

Does anybody know the best cashback website for laptops at Staples, and if it'll go thru even with the 10% coupon?

Ebates disabled the cashbacks today, for some reason.

Macbook spec: 13.3", i5-5350U, 128GB SSD
Huawei spec: 13.9", i5-8250U, 256 GB SSD

Macbook Pro is more comparable specs wise, and it cost $2000. But hey it's your money 🤷.
