[Staples] Lenovo Flex 5 14 4300U, 256 GB SSD, 8 GB DDR $699

Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 81X2000UCF 14-inch Touch Screen 2-in-1, 2.7 GHz AMD Ryzen 3 4300U, 256 GB SSD, 8 GB DDR4, Windows 10 Home. If you put in 75490 in coupon code area you get another $25 off making it $675 before tax. This is almost as good as the black friday deal i got for amazon for a Flex 5 last year for $599. I purchased this holding out for tomorrow, if something better shows up i'll return it.

Negatives: No backlit keyboard and no pen included

How does this generally stack up against the Dell 15” 4500u right now at $699?

2-in-1 touchscreen convertible.

The Dell is the more upgradeable and a faster platform, but not convertible touchscreen, faster screen CPU, and upgrade paths.

Pick your poison. I went with the Dell because I prefer the classic ultrabook form factor in this generation.

E: Faster CPU, not faster screen, fixed.

Cool. Thanks for the quick response. What about reliability and internal wise? This would be a present for my parents who can use this for working from home. The touch screen isn’t an advantage in this case. So internals, reliability and brand wise, is the Dell better?

Any ideas on real use battery life?

I was hoping for something in the 13" range but maybe this will feel like that compared to lugging around my 15.6" gaming one.

The Dell Inspiron 14 2-in-1 laptop is an alternative to this laptop. The Dell has a better processor and includes a pen*.There is a 10% off Unidays code for university students and Rakuten is at 8% right now. It should be in the same price range as the Lenovo if you can get all the discounts. There are reviews of the Dell on Youtube but most of them are for units with a better processor so battery life and performance figures would be different.

*Correction - The pen may not be included and will need to be purchased separately.

The Dell 2-in-1 is the better deal with Unidays and Rakuten, if it's still in stock.

Those units flew off the shelves when Rakuten hit 8%.

Yes, and some of the reviews state that the pen works fairly well with the screen. I have one on order and will arrive in a few weeks but it was mentioned in the other thread that demand is high for all laptops and items may arrive after the holidays.

The Lenovo gets better reviews than the Dell... Based on Lenovo/AMD pricing this year, this seems like a good deal to me at $675 with the coupon. It's a weird year, well have to see how supply and demand play out.

Last year the 3500u was still cheaper than Intel. This year the 4000 series is just so much further ahead than Intel, the pricing is higher.

Ordered, looks like the performance is pretty much the same between this 4300u vs the 3700u from last year that I need to replace.
But I also ordered the thinkbook i5 1135g7 with 16/512 and better screen and body construction, but not a 2in1 for $200 more.
Decisions, decisions....

I bought one of these from staples a couple month ago at the same price. It's got great battery life (>8 hrs web browsing) and can even play some older games at reasonable settings. Build quality is average given whole casing is ABS plastic, but at this price point you can't really complain.
