decent beater / backup / kids phone / mp3 player / dedicated media caster / just dance controller etc. If you don't mind having a refurbished headset.

sotfware wise its up to Android 6.0 (via update), 1GB ram and 8mp camera (standard stuff) for budget phones. I believe only the US variant has LTE. This might be the Canadian version which does not have LTE - YMMV.

it has micro SD slot of extra storage.

I dunno, I think even the Moto G 3rd gen feels pretty dated. The 8GB of storage will be very annoying, I don't know if the 2nd gen supports portable storage but even if it does that still doesn't work with a lot of apps.

Please clarify where you got the specs listed in the post.
The Staples listing indicates Android 4.4.4 KitKat (yes it might be upgradable to 6.0 (Marshmallow))
and no mention of LTE, only HSPA
gsmarena does not recognize Motorola Moto G XT1064, closest is xt1068.
