Definitely not. It's in box collecting dust after I got orbi ax series 2 satellites.

Coverage is great close to the unit but many dead spots in my home around the house. Honestly spending any money on a wifi 5 is a bit of a waste in most cases since wifi 6 networks doesn't fully slow down with wifi 5 devices as was the case with WiFi 5 and it's handling of older devices.

Isn't that like $700 and thus should be better?

* . It's great. I live in a large cement walled apartment and have excellent signal through said walls. The guy likely didn't set it up right that's all.

mine died just before 2 years. would reboot every day at random times. suspect it was the poor quality firmware updates.

downgraded the firmware and it would restart randomly a few times a month, better than every day.

went the ubiquiti route in the end, and so far stable for a year

Have you tried to flash Asuswrt-Merlin on it? My R7000 is still going strong after almost 6 years.

*Just wondering, how big’s your apartment? Let’s say 1200sq ft to be generous?
Does this performance extrapolate to a 2000 or 3000sq ft house?

Yes the orbi costs $700. But the dude is legit just trying to share that in his experience, he still had dead spots with this router. There’s nothing wrong with that.

nope never bothered to try. i was having trouble downgrading the firmware in general. gave up and claimed credit card warranty.

speeds were great though...but I care more about stability given I have around 40 clients connected

Thank you, appreciate it. Yes it's a 700 dollar system from the same company but the R8000 was around 400 bucks when I bought it, just one unit. For 100 bucks and in a smaller area, this is good but if anyone is asking about range, then I doubt it's a a small apartment. Range is bad especially now they forced u to combine all 3 bands into one of. Having it separate means even the two 5gz are each separated. Don't buy if you need coverage (my home is about 2900sqft

Thanks op, staples has a bunch of routers on clearance. Check the routers section and local store pickup in your area and you might be able to get one of the good deals!

Can it mesh with R7000? R7000 still running fine with old stock firmware.

Netgear non orbi doesn't mesh. Asus ones do. Can't speak for external firmware though.

R8000 is one of the few powerful routers supported by freshtomato firmware. I just use wireless bridge to connect second floor. For this tri-band router one 5G band set up as wireless bridge, still got another 5G and one 2.4G bands as access point.
