Would this phone be considered an upgrade from an LG V30?

Canadian and European variants of the A70 might have some sort of wifi bug. It's really fishy that there is a "wifi safe mode" in these units, but not in American units. Test out the wifi before you decide to keep it. Phone looks solid otherwise.

Also: the A50 received a patch earlier this month that broke the fingerprint sensor, which was already not great to begin with. I don't know if the A70 was affected.

Solid phone you can get the A50 open box for just over 300 but both of these phones have no NFC, bought it anyways. I heard they patched the fingerprint thing after the goof up, still has face unlock or pattern.

Have the A70 and love the performance and size and battery life. Finger Print was very miss a while back. Works 95% of the time now outside of doing something that temp makes my finger print harder to read. I used all 5 points on just my one finger to make it work better... Sadly not as good as my older phones with dedicated back finger print scanners.

Both A50 and A70 has NFC. Are you referring to Samsung Pay??? Neither phone has that

A70 yes most have NFC except for east asian ones, the model number on this staples one doesnt contain F or N that have nfc however the specs show it does. I never trust the spec sheets on these retail sites so buyer beware. https://www.phonemore.com/models/samsung/galaxy-a70/

My short review from the other thread

My thoughts on the A70 . I went from an Essential PH-1 to the Samsung 'cause I wanted larger screen and bigger battery

The Samsung is slower on updates for sure. I'm sad it is still running Android 9 with October 2019 security patch. I got spoiled by immediate updates on the Essential. However, the Samsung is set to receive Android 10 and One UI 2.0 in April of 2020 so that's something.

I'm not a gamer, in light of that the Samsung seems just as speedy as the Essential even though the Samsung has a slightly lower Antutu score (199K).

I love having a headphone jack again. The screen is bright and clear. Reception with Rogers in downtown Toronto has been great. Battery life on the Samsung is incredible with the 4500 mAh battery in there. I run WhatsApp , loads of other stuff, stream via bluetooth, watch videos and still can't kill it by end of day.

Also has an FM radio tuner that doesn't use your data . It works for me with the NextRadio app. Great for CBC in the morning to work.

The Samsung A70 is definitely one of the nicer phones I've had. Very satisfied with it so far.

Forgot to mention cameras. I'm not a photo guy either but A70 does seem better than Essential here too. I really appreciate the wide angle option and pictures are good enough for my social media uses.

If you want some of the neat gesture navigation that's coming with Android 10 you can add it now with Samsung's official app

The camera makes things look a bit smudgy in up close details, I guess this is their denoising software. I installed a version of GCam which makes it a bit more accurate, noise and all, but it does improve the night shots. I keep both for different occasions.

Found the email in my inbox and it does indeed state online at staples.ca, however the code does work instore and I used on a laptop.
