[Staples] Sign up for the chance to purchase the XBox Series S

Yes, yes, not a hot deal, etc., but for anyone looking for an XBox Series S, Staples is trying a different route and has opened a lotto for the chance to purchase one. Hopefully this avoids being the standard !*@show.

Good luck to anyone interested!

All retailers should do this going forward. Forget this absolute mess of a situation trying to beat bots and/or websites crashing due to demand.

I'm far from the kind of person who would normally say this, but that truly is consumerism gone too far. Sign up for a lottery for the chance to pay us money to buy a product.

That said, it's probably the fairest way to handle this.

Rarely do I see a lottery I don't want to win but that I actually sign up for. Wow where are we headin'!

edit : Nevermind. Decided not to enter. I'll be patient for shoppers instead. My One S will still work for the next months.

This is actually a great idea to try and curb bots. Good on Staples

If I didn't already have a pre-order placed, I'd much prefer this method to trying to randomly score one in-store somewhere on launch day.

This. I'd love to have one under the tree for our son, but if I wait a couple months I can potentially get it for 20% off or better...

Sure. Maybe its a combination of lotto and doing a better job to ensure only 1 household/address gets a preorder.

Holy crap this is peak 2020. Its crazy how Anti-Consumer the world is becoming and more favouring big corporations. Sad part is there will be people defending it and that's how it is able to continue.

Hopefully they let people who win order sooner rather than later so they can have them on launch date.
My S from the source is getting delivered tomorrow. Some guy on reddit got his yesterday.

The retailers could lock out the bots if they tried even a bit. I design web applications in a similar industry and identifying and locking out bots is not that difficult at the moment.

Nothing new, I remember being in a Zellers when they were having a contest in order to win the right to purchase a Tickle Me Elmo.

I would sign up for a Series X.

I think series S will be more widely available anyway. Microsoft had them up for pre-order for a good couple of days. Probably because of less demand and more supply.

Also they contact you by phone looks like. This doesn't work well for me since I rarely pick it up anymore (too much spam calls).
