Staples in store has Microsoft Surface Laptop 1st Gen for $599.97, as always very ymmv on clearance items
The sku is for the French version but the English version is the same price.
This is the KSR-0002 for French and KSR-0001 for English
This is the exact model

Hell yeah it's worth it, great build quality. Which location did you see it at?

It's more than 50% of the original retail, nice unit with good specs

Great price, only issue for me is the 7200u is pretty weak. The surface laptop 2 is like 80% faster on multithreaded. I'd legit go looking for it right now if it wasn't for that. That and my super old Lenovo is still on par with this, simply due to this being dual core.

You are right but the cpu is the only change from 1gen to 2 gen so all depends on your needs but for what I do I prefer 1st gen for $600 vs 2nd for $1300

I'm kind of unconvinced that this is a hot price. *Great* build quality, but you're stuck with 8GB RAM/128GB SSD and a pretty anemic CPU. I guess it depends on what you're after.

Isn't the first gen like an unmitigated disaster or am I thinking of something else.

at 600$ those are fantastic specs. 16gb ram is gonna pull you into $800+, likely the $1000 range, so if your looking for 16gb you basically are in a different price bracket.

This is basically on par with the current cheap inspiron, your trading some power, and HD space, but get a much lighter device with a much better screen with touch/pen support. And dont need to use ebates/gift card to get that price.

If it comes with the keyboard then it might be worth.
