I received an email from Starbucks on Thursday (see image below) indicating a significant change in their App's rewards redemption. Beginning Monday February 13, the redemption of a regular coffee (any size) DOUBLES from 50 Stars to 100 Stars. For those accumulating Stars, I would recommend using them this weekend.
A specialty drink increases from 150 Stars to 200 Stars.
On the plus side, paying with the app increases future Stars from 1 to 2 Stars per $1 spent. Although this may look like a wash, it devalues the current balance by half (for those with a great deal of Stars).

I'd say it's not, but yeah use those stars people. It was news at the end of December, Starbucks emailed a few days ago, and another reward program is being watered down. At least if you're a frequent enough visitor, the "starbucks merch" remains 400 stars, so I guess that'll be the level I go for after redeeming 150 today. Tick tock, six months on the clock from my next purchase!

Just a note, you only get 2 stars for every $1 spent with the app if you're using a Starbucks card and the minimum you can load/reload to a Starbucks card is $10.
For me, the only positive is ice coffee will be 100 stars instead of 150 going forward, but yea, these companies devaluing their rewards programs really suck
The only upside of the change is the coffee beans for 300 points. Otherwise we/I am getting shafted since I had 1500+ points on Thursday and was keeping them to enjoy iced drinks in the Summer.

Also note that points expire in 6 months from time of accumulation so depending on when you got those points it might not even make it to summer regardless.
Just had some points expire on me and made me aware of this...

Paying with the in-app gift card has always been 2 stars per $1 spent vs paying with credit card at 1 star per $1 spent so they're not making any changes there
