Starting a home business in Brampton - Do I need a permit?

If the property is on a major street there is a chance for re-zoning but on a side street I wouldn't think so.

I would hate to think this is a strong enough reason to prevent someone from starting a home business. I do see many people running businesses from their home/garage even in my neighbourbood. But I do see the reasoning from preventing any type of home based business without proper vetting.

You will not be able to get a permit for business in your home.

That said, you are unlikely to encounter any obstacles doing it without a permit. Tons of people provide these kind of services from home.

as long as you're not doing it for walkups or have very high volume, you will be fine for personal care services like that. in terms of enforcement I"ll be more (but still not that big) concern will be your home insurance probably won't cover anything if you don't tell them you were running a business from your home.

I am not sure about Brampton, but in Markham you do NOT need to rezone your home for such a business.
Having said that, there are limitation to what you can or cannot do, such as posting signs etc.
It would be smart to contact the city and get all the details, because as a minimum you will need to purchase a license/permit to operate this business.
